Well, they also tell them about themselves - SEALs get a certificate after their first jump, Bird Turds and Idiots, signed by the CO of whichever training team they are on. I actually have one, though mine is signed by the CO of Team 2 from 1987. I would have to seriously dig around in the barn to find mine, but the phrasing is something about 'jumping out of a perfectly good airplane'.
