  • Favorite Song Lyrics: 2012 Edition! ^_^

EDIT: Just a reminder, this is SUPPOSED to be a "Game" Thread and should be moved to the appropriate forum. ;-)

Since the old threads are now locked due to disuse, I'm starting this one back up! This here's the place to post the lyrics to your favorite songs! PLEASE make sure to give credit where credit's due, and NAME the song and the artist that performed it! And please, be respectful of others whose taste in music may be different from your own.

With the worldwide release of Halo 4 for the Xbox 360 just around the corner (November 6th in the good ol' US of A! ) here's one of my favorite things that's come along because of the Halo franchise...

"I'm in Love With Halo" by The Warp Zone
(Parody of "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction)
Ten years ago, we said hello
and had the time of our lives playing Halo
Now Master Chief, you're fast asleep
and I am left playing with n00bs on Halo: Reach

Everything else doesn't matter to me
    Everything else but you...

It's been too long since I've played with you Master Chief!
The way you headshot and melee your enemies
And when you capture the flag, it's so easy to see
    I'm just so, oh-oh
    I'm in love with Halo!
If only you saw my killing sprees,
you'd understand why I teabag my enemies!
    I'm so addicted right now,
    and I can't believe
    I'm just so, oh-oh
I'm in love with Halo, oh-oh!
    I'm in love with Halo

Coming this fall, to heed the call
Chief will return, save the day, and us all
Cortana's hot, like her a lot
And I am glad she'll be back in her normal spot

Everything else doesn't matter to me
    Everything else but you...

It's been too long since I've played with you Master Chief!
The way you headshot and melee your enemies
And when you capture the flag, it's so easy to see
    I'm just so, oh-oh
    I'm in love with Halo!
If only you saw my killing sprees,
you'd understand why I teabag my enemies!
    I'm so addicted right now,
    and I can't believe
    I'm just so, oh-oh
I'm in love with Halo, oh-oh!
    I'm in love with Halo

    Na na-na-na na-na na na-na-na,
    na na-na-na na-na
    Na na-na-na na-na na na-na-na,
    na na-na-na na-na

It's been too long since I've played with you Master Chief
The way you headshot and melee your enemies
And when you capture the flag, it's so easy to see
    I'm just so, oh-oh
    I'm in love with Halo!

    Thread re-opened.

Sorry Jack...this one had gotten pushed to the mods' back-burner and forgotten about. No real issues with it. Carry on.

      "What If?"

The eternal question that forever plagues our minds, and drives some of us crazy...

      "What If?" by Godsmack
      Been disconnected for so long
and left my mark here along the way
So many years have come and gone
So many fears have remained the same

      I see a faith
      I swim and play
      Yet drowning all possibilities
beyond what I believe and know
I cut the cord free of home again

      It turns to silence,
a silence sometimes I can hear
      Internal violence,
a struggle deep within, what if?

What if I leave, could I still breathe?
What if I breathe, could I still be?
And if I leave, would I be me?

I lost my hope along the way
I lost my hope along the way!

      It turns to silence,
a silence sometimes I can hear
      Internal violence,
a struggle deep within, what if?

What if I leave, could I still breathe?
What if I breathe, could I still be?
And if I leave, would I be me?

      What if?
      What if?
      What if?

      It turns to silence,
a silence sometimes I can hear!
      Internal violence,
a demon deep within, what if?!

What if I leave, could I still breathe?
What if I breathe, could I still be?
And if I leave, would I be me?

      What if?
      What if?
      What if?!

A good thing to remember: Not Perfect by Tim Minchin

        This is my Earth
        And I live in it
It's one third dirt and two thirds water
And it rotates and revolves through space
        At rather an impressive pace
And never even messes up my hair
And here's the really weird thing
The force created by it's spin
Is the force that stops the chaos flooding in

        This is my Earth
        And it's fine
It's where I spend the vast majority of my time
It's not perfect, but it's mine
        It's not perfect

        This is my country
        And I live in it
It's pretty big and nice to walk on
And the bloke who runs my country
        Has built a demagoguery
And taught us to be fearful and boring
And the weirdest thing is that he is
        Conservative of politics
But really rather radical of eyebrows

        This is my country
        And it's fine
It's where I spend a vast majority of my time
It's not perfect, but it's mine
        It's not perfect

        This is my house
        And I live in it
It's made of cracks and photographs
We rent it off a guy who bought it from a guy
Who bought it from a guy
Whose granddad left it to him
And the weirdest thing is that this house
Has locks to keep the baddies out
But they're mostly used to lock ourselves in

        This is my house
        And it's fine
It's where I spend a vast majority of my time
It's not perfect, but it's mine
It's not perfect, but it's mine

        This is my body
        And I live in it
It's thirty-one and six months old
It's changed a lot since it was new
It's done stuff it wasn't built to do
I often try to fill it up with wine
And the weirdest thing about it is
I spend so much time hating it
But it never says a bad word about me

        This is my body
        And it's fine
It's where I spend a vast majority of my time
It's not perfect, but it's mine
        It's not perfect

        This is my brain
        And I live in it
It's made of love and bad song lyrics
It's tucked away behind my eyes
Where all my screwed up thoughts can hide
Cause God forbid I hurt somebody
And the weird thing about a mind
Is that every answer that I find
Is the basis of a brand new cliche

        This is my brain
        And it's fine
It's where I spend a vast majority of my time
It's not perfect, but it's mine
It's not perfect, but it's mine
        It's not perfect
I'm not quite sure I've worked out how to work it
It's not perfect, but it's mine
        But it's mine
I don't go in for ancient wisdom
I don't believe just 'cause ideas are tenacious
It means that they're worthy - Tim Minchin, "White Wine in the Sun"

"No One Likes Superman" by I Fight Dragons

          Strong hands, strong mind
          Strong all the time
          Straightforward and kind
          Too simply defined…

          Chorus:
Cuz no one wants to know the man who stands for things we outgrow
He’s too noble and too blind
We’re all older now and we don’t need someone to care about
          The innocence we left behind…

          (Don’t touch that dial)
(It’s just that goodness is out of style)

          Be dark, be cold
          (so conflicted)
          No hand to hold
          (heart constricted)
          Dark Knight, bright soul
          (we’re addicted)
No room here for the bold…

          Chorus

And what if he can fly?
          Hey, well so can I
          Jet Blue or United Airlines
And who cares if he’s strong
All we see’s the wrong we’ve done
          Reflected in his eyes...

          Chorus
Is it insanity to reason with the voices in your head or to ignore them and hope they go away on their own? - Hod from Brat-halla

            "Sickened"...

Here's one of my current faves, which I'm dedicating to anyone that's ever been in a relationship that made you say, after it was over, "WTF was I thinking?!?"

            "Sickened" by Disturbed
            Take me away yeah!

That's enough of all your taunting
Seems I can't remove you from my mind
            Don't you know sometimes I wish they'd
            kill me for wanting you
I will sit alone in silence,
gather all the meaning I can find
Will you be defeated when they
            kill me for wanting you?

I can't believe that my sanity lies
            in abandoning you
            I can't recall a more helpless time
            perpetrated by you!

            Sickened from wanting you
            Frightened of finding the truth
            Don't say anymore
            Now my mind isn't changing
            This reckoning's long overdue

            Alabaster walls surround me
in the prison of my own design
Will I win my freedom if they
            kill me for wanting you?
In the arms of Hell will hound me,
just as long as I remain confined
I will be completed when they
            kill me for wanting you

I can't believe that my sanity lies
            in abandoning you
            I can't recall a more helpless time
            perpetrated by you!

            Sickened from wanting you
            Frightened of finding the truth
            Don't say anymore
            Now my mind isn't changing
            This reckoning's long overdue

So I have determined that I am all done
            Will I bury another problem
in the graveyard you allowed me to find?
So I have determined that I am no one
Will I finally cling to something
that has never been tied to
            any single memory of you?

            Sickened from wanting you
            Frightened of finding the truth
            Don't say anymore
            Now my mind isn't changing
            This reckoning's long overdue

So I have determined that I am all done
            Will I bury another problem
in the graveyard you allowed me to find?

              "Parasite"

Another one that reminds me of a failed relationship from a few years ago...

              "Parasite" by Disturbed
              You've got nowhere to hide,
              and all bullshit aside,
              you've committed a terrible crime
              You've stepped over the line
and you'd better be running for your life!

              Fucked over again,
I even called you a friend
              A mistake I won't be repeating
              I just don't understand
how you can even continue to deny

              You know why?
              (You don't remember why)
Don't you pretend that you don't know why!
              (You fucking parasite)
              Because you're living through
association that has been getting you high
You'd sell your soul for just a taste of my life!

              Now what a surprise,
              to discover the lies
you'll be telling again in no time
              You just don't realize
they'll come back and be fucking up your life!

              In trouble again,
              I just don't understand
this whole pattern that keeps repeating
You know you'll do it again
and admit you can step into the light

              You know why?
              (You don't remember why)
Don't you pretend that you don't know why!
              (You fucking parasite)

association that has been getting you high
You'd sell your soul for just a taste of my life
Determination has been running on high
No control, for just a taste of my life!

Because your association has been getting you high
You'd sell your soul for just a taste of my life
Determination has been running on high
No control, for just a taste of my life

                Rocket Dragon

I wield the true all-seeing eye
My vision digitized and bright despite the veil of night
Those really people on my screen?
They run around in panic in between places to hide,
as I tear up the street outside

Run, run away or remain with the ones
with nowhere to go as The Sky falls to Earth

Stay down if once you have fallen
                It’s all coming down
The world ends and fades out
Stay down if once you have fallen to the ground
Can you hear the sound of a demon in search of its prey?

I long to give them all a taste,
a sudden breath of hellfire raised to send them all away
A few more souls to make my day

As I burn down and murder I know that God forgives
‘Spite all the things I’ve done,
                my soul yet forever lives
All those caught in the shadow of my wings have cause to fear
I swear on all I’ve done
                No evil shall linger here

My favorite song of the year:

"Little Talks," by Of Monsters and Men.

I don't like walking around this old and empty house.
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear

The stairs creak as I sleep,
                  it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

Some days I can't even dress myself.
It's killing me to see you this way.

'Cause though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore.

                  Hey! Hey! Hey!

There's an old voice in my head
                  that's holding me back
Well tell her that I miss our little talks.

Soon it will all be over, buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
and full of life and full of love.

Some days I feel like I'm wrong when I am right.
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear.

'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

                  Hey!
                  Don't listen to a word I say
                  Hey!
The screams all sound the same.
                  Hey!

                  Though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

                  You're gone, gone, gone away,
                  I watched you disappear.
All that's left is a ghost of you.
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart,
                  there's nothing we can do,
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon.

Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep.

                  Hey!
                  Don't listen to a word I say
                  Hey!
The screams all sound the same.
                  Hey!

                  Though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

                  Hey!
                  Don't listen to a word I say
                  Hey!

I've been on a bit of a Leonard Cohen kick lately...

                    Hallelujah

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
                    It goes like this
                    The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
                    The baffled king composing Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
                    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time when you let me know
                    What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

                    Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who has seen the light
                    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well, really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
                    Hallelujah, Hallelujah

                      "Ring Capacity"...

My favorite "nerd rock" song, from Seattle's Kirby Krackle...

                      "Ring Capacity" by Kirby Krackle
I'm flying through the cold of space,
it seems I've yet to find my place
                      I'm guarding Twenty-Eight-Fourteen,
                      I don't know why it's chosen me

When from the corner of my eye
I catch a glimpse of evil light
The fear it tries to swallow me,
like I'm just some guy with an emerald...

                      Ring Capacity, Ninety Point One
                      Ring Capacity, Seventy-Nine
                      Ring Capacity, Sixty-Eight Five
And now I'm fighting for my life

                      Ring Capacity, Ninety Point One
                      Ring Capacity, Seventy-Nine
                      Ring Capacity, Sixty-Eight Five
And now the trick's to stay alive

I see the man who's made me bleed,
the one who taught me everything
A purple man obsessed with me
Soul lost to the dark and it's now extinct

from any good it once possessed
Pledge to the oath now laid to rest
No time for doubt, no quick eject
Don't give in to fear, like my father said

                      Ring Capacity, Fifty Point Nine
                      Ring Capacity, Forty-Six One
                      Ring Capacity, Thirty-Eight Five
And now I'm fighting for my life

                      Ring Capacity, Fifty Point Nine
                      Ring Capacity, Forty-Six One
                      Ring Capacity, Thirty-Eight Five
And now the trick's to stay alive

My hands burn, my skin stings
I'm running low on what I need
A blast of light, my last recourse
I find my way to the power source

In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might
beware my power, Green Lantern's light!

                      Ring Capacity, Forty-Six One
                      Ring Capacity, Fifty-Eight Nine
                      Ring Capacity, Sixty-Four Five
And now I'm charged and burning bright

                      Ring Capacity, Seventy-Five
                      Ring Capacity, Eighty-Three Two
                      Ring Capacity, Ninety-Nine Nine
And now I'm back into the fight
That should've been the theme song for the recently cancelled Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
"Eventually one outgrows the fairy tales of childhood, belief in Santa and the Easter Bunny, and believing that SCs are even capable of imagining themselves in our position."

                        "On and On"...

"On and On" by Kirby Krackle
A stack of lives I hardly know
Look in my mind, a window pane, blurry
                        These claws I have, unmistakable
I always heal, but I never stop hurting

I have no past, no sense of time
No safe place here and no finish line
I've put more loves into the ground
than any man can say he's found
                        Here and questioning everything inside
has led me now, to here, this is my life

Monday comes, fly to the Savage Land
Tuesday, rooftop battles with a gang of Hand
On and on and on it goes
and on and on and on it goes, until
Wednesday morn, filled up with bullet wounds
Thursday night, tearing up the Wrecking Crew
On and on and on it goes
and on and on and on it goes

                        Battles fought, they never stop
When Creed appears, it never goes sweetly
Sinister glares through his test vials
When Wilson speaks, I always go crazy

                        There's no repast, no destiny
No time to waste with this weight on me
From Madripor to New York State,
I'll never catch these ghosts I chase
                        Fear and questioning everything inside
has brought me now, to here, this is my life

On and on and on it goes
and on and on and on it goes, until

On and on and on it goes
and on and on and on it goes

Until Friday night, the Elf and I get drinking
Talk and share stories from long ago
People forgotten and things we can't let go
The weekend passes like a blur
Xavier's checking in to see if I'm doing fine
                        And Sunday's winding down, until

Monday comes, fly to the Savage Land
Tuesday, rooftop battles with a gang of Hand

and on and on and on it goes
and on and on and on
and on and on and on

"Summer Of '89" by Butch Walker and the Black Widows

                          1, 2, 3...

                          Whoa, oh, ho, oh-oh, whoa

                          Changing strings
                          Banging on things
A couple of girls from the school
                          Would listen to KISS
                          With rockets for fists
                          Acting like Saturdays fools

                          Learned how to smoke
                          Told dirty jokes
Talked about loose girls from Rome
I made out with most of them
So I raised a toast to them
                          Especially now that I'm old

And they're 45 with husbands who don't like their wives
3 or 4 kids, make enough to survive
                          In their paper mill jobs
                          While their teen heartthrobs
                          Are playing in bands
                          Or they're dead

Can I go back to when
                          I was the winner
                          Way before the rain came
                          And washed away the sinners?
                          Everyone was something and
Nothing was done right or wrong

                          Oh, oh, oh
                          Whoa, oh, ho, oh-oh, whoa

Smothering the cover of a '69 summer
Played through a speaker of fuzz
Nobody knew Bryan Adams wasn't cool
The TV just told me he was

                          Always heard the sound
Get me out of this town
                          Resonating clear in my head
Chuck ran away with our gear and the drugs
Ya know I'm pretty sure that he's dead

                          Or he's 46 and alone
                          Cast the heaviest stone
Suburban cover band playing bad to the bone
In a bath tub of meth
You can smell your own death
You know when you can't look your past in the eye

Can I just go back to when
                          I was the winner
                          Way before the rain came
                          And washed away the sinners?
                          Everyone was something
And I could never do any wrong

                          Oh, oh, oh
                          Whoa, oh, ho, oh-oh, whoa

                          Went back to the woods
Where I hid all my goods
In a rusted out Cadillac door
                          We all get nostalgic
And fall for the hat trick
Of thinking it'll be like before

                          Like the football jocks
                          Trying to please their pops
And the stoners aping everything their bad uncles taught
                          And the teachers who cared
                          More than I ever knew
                          They knew I played clubs
                          Let me sleep through school
                          And my day job boss
Who wrote it up as a loss
But let me leave when I wanted and I never got caught
                          Sleeping out on the field
In the back of my truck
                          Breaking into the bars
Stealing the beer and getting fucked
By a girl twice my age, making minimum wage
But the tan lines were good
And she had a good face
                          Is this what I've become?
                          Is this all I've become?
                          When do I become...?

I wanna go back to when
                          I was the winner
                          Way before the rain came
                          And washed away the sinners
                          Everyone was someone and
And I could never do any wrong

                          Oh, oh, oh
                          Whoa, oh, ho, oh-oh, whoa

(I made bold the lyrics I particularly like.)

(Great video, too, "directed" by someone who clearly has no idea how to direct anything... lots of fun!)

I've been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan lately. Maybe I'm getting old.

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
                            You used to laugh about
                            Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

                            How does it feel
                            How does it feel
                            To be without a home
                            Like a complete unknown
                            Like a rolling stone?

You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it
                            You said you'd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but know you realize
                            He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say do you want to make a deal?

                            How does it feel
                            How does it feel
                            To be on your own
                            With no direction home
                            Like a complete unknown
                            Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.

                            How does it feel
                            How does it feel
                            To be on your own
                            With no direction home
                            Like a complete unknown
                            Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

                            How does it feel
                            How does it feel
                            To be on your own
                            With no direction home
                            Like a complete unknown
                            Like a rolling stone?
