So I'm looking at Craigslist under "Volunteer". Of course I want something to do with kittehs. I see one for a need of voluneers for eye research. Here's the main text of it:
We are studying the effects of aging on the ability of the eye to focus on near objects. If you are between 35 to 45 years of age, you may qualify to participate.
The study involves one or two visits, approximately 2 hours each. The study involves viewing eye charts and testing the eyes with our instruments.
You may be required to wear your current prescription in contact lenses if you already do so. The risks for participation in this study are no greater than that of a routine eye examination.
Subjects will be compensated $ 30.00 per hour visit in gift cards.
This is at the University I went to. So I call the number provided. The guy who answered the phone said at one point, "online?" so I told him I looked at Craigslist. Then he said, "no, who is on (the?) line?" so I gave him my name and he said he will call back.
So he calls back, gives me info., and says he will send info. to my email.
One of the things involved is putting a cup on my eye and putting saline solution in the cup and doing an ultrasound. Sounds scary but I figure a lot of shit in the hospital is scary, and it sounded interresting.
So I make an appt.
Guy calls my house asking for Kim the next day. I tell him there is no Kim, that I am dmfan. He waits a beat and hangs up.
Calls me again to remind me of my appt.
Short story, from 9:30 to 12:30 I'm there. He gives me eye drops and says my eyes are dry, (which I knew already) and draws a pic of dry spots on my eye. He gives me drops. I tell him one eye is kind of blurry. He says I can come back if I have problems. I go home even though my eye kind of botters me. I figure it will get better. I put in drops and take a nap. I get up and my eye feels like it has something in it. I use the drops to flush it out but it still feels like it's there and it feels like it moves around. I look in the mirror several times but see nothing. Though latter I think I see something white on my pupil. So I wash my hands and stick my finger there, thinking I can get it stuck on my finger. I still have problems. I send an email telling the guy I will be in at 9am.I put drops and go to bed.
I wake up and whatever is on my eye is digging in. I can't keep the eye open because whenever I blink I have pain. Though if I prop my eye open and don't blink I have no pain.
I got a friend to take me to the Optometry clinic where I went the day before. He sees my eye, and tells me the dry spots have gotten huge and is one huge spot over my cornea. So he gets anotehr doctor to give me drops to make my pupil huge (so the iris isn't bothering the dry spot) and antibiotics (I told them I stuck my finger in my eye) and a contact lens that they called a bandaid, which is to protect my eye from my eyelid. When I blink, my eyelid scraps against the dry spot, not letting it heal and causing me pain.
I have an apt for them to look at my healing eye tomorrow.
So hopefully my eye will heal. sometimes it feels like shit. and the affected eye is still blurry, but it's because of the hole.
There's five layers of protection on the eye and the top layer has the hole.
