From what I understand, you attach the beads to a board, then heat them to melt them together.

In the UK they're called Hama beads, I forget what Seraph called them for the US
The beads are little tubes about 5mm long and...2mm thick? They come in bags of a large number of a separate colour or tubs of lots of colours. The boards are in all sorts of shapes but are all covered in little spikes perfect to hold one bead. God help the nearest cushion though if you jolt the board and your carefully-laid pattern goes flying. Then you melt them together - my mum put greaseproof paper over them and went over them with an iron. Not sure if that's still how it's done, I haven't played with them for years

They're caller Perler beads here in the US. I like to use parchment paper to place over them, myself, and then just iron over that. Instructions say the highest setting before the steam settings. They're a pretty soft plastic so you don't need a lot of heat.My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night.
