You could take the Al Yankovic route. He has a degree in architecture. He obviously isn't using it, but he got it so he would have a fall back. While persuing his degree he worked as a DJ for the school's radio station. This might be something to look into. Are there any local theaters that you could use to apprentice yourself in theatrical make-up arts or something along those lines?
On the other hand you could do what George Takei did. He was studying architecture, and decided about midway through that degree to become an actor, so he changed his major (and school) so he could do that.
I guess it's up to you to decide which is the best option for you.
