    *snip*

She wanted to know what prompted me to send it.
My first reaction would be to say "This online Death Eaters group I belong to."

Good course of action, SG. Now make sure to get your mom off that credit card. You need to focus on your own (or at least yours and your husband's) financial concerns. Your mother and her friend (or car user) strike me as a couple of parasites who get by using people. Cut off the money spigot and they'll find new hosts.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

If your mother owes you a lot of money and you don't expect to get it back then tell her to take it out of the money she owes you.
I did something similar to my mother, when I was still living there. At the time, I had started working full-time, but was paying rent. Not a lot of rent, but it was what it was. Anyway, she wanted me to pick up a roll of postage stamps one afternoon. Keep in mind that it was about $40 for 100 then. No mention of paying me back for them because $40 is $40. So, I simply deducted that amount from her rent payment...and she hit the fucking ceiling "How dare [I] do that."

Sadly, that wasn't the only time. When I had my paper route, I had to have my dad's name on the checking account. I was a minor at the time. Having his name on the account, apparently gave *them* the right to write checks out of my account to pay *their* bills. Yet, if I wanted to write a check to order some models, even though I was busting my ass to earn it, I'd get grief Turns out they were using my account as their personal S&L

The final straw came not long after I started my current job. I got a bank statement one afternoon, and saw a $500 check listed. Turns out that one of their shitbox cars needed repairs, and rather than simply ask, someone broke into my strongbox, stole the checkbook, and "took care of it." When confronted, my mom refused to pay me back. Instead, she put it towards my "future rent." Pissed me off, because that was a week's pay at the time!

That's when I had everything switched over, and their money problems were no longer mine. She got her monthly rent payment, and that was it. Now, if they can't afford things, it's not my problem.
