So I have scored a summer job working reception at a campground - yay a pay check.

I will be staying in shared worker accommodation (or in a tent if I can organise one). There is a kitchen shared by the 20 of us and the campground is located 12km out of town.

I need suggestions for what I can eat while at this job. I don't want to be taking up a lot of fridge space, but prob only want to go into town once a week.

There is a shop at the campground but I would rather not pay their prices to often (even though staff get a discount).

Assuming they have room set aside for you guys to store (and cook) food -- You can always buy things like poultry or meat on sale and freeze it; same for bread. Can also use canned goods and boxed items like cereal, canned pasta, instant potatoes etc, if you like them, as these just take up a little bit of pantry space and you can just make 1 or 2 servings at a time. Peanut Butter & Jelly, deli meats & cheeses, or something similar also work, and are easily transportable for hikes or other away-from-camp activities. Will they allow you to use smaller food items that belong to the camp (within reason), such as PB&J, spices, milk, etc? If so, using those could save you some money/space, as well.

Just make sure that anything you DO buy is labeled as your own/non-communal food, and hope they have a way to enforce it. If they don't, or if stuff you've bought for your own use starts "disappearing," you may just have to stick to canned and boxed food that you can store in your own locker.

PS, if you do your own cooking (with the camp's kitchen gear), it may also be a good idea to ask kitchen staff there to run through their basic procedure for how they want their pans/dishes cleaned and put away, out of both courtesy and practicality In any case, assume that things work on the "If you mess it up, clean it up" principle.

Or go the easy route and have communal meals so everybody chips in and 2 people a day do the cooking

It is cheaper ,less waste and you learn a lot about your collegues

Tuna salad- Canned tuna, boiled eggs keep ok in the shell, and don't take up much fridge space and mayo and relish can be gotten in small packets that don't need refrigeration. Put between bread slices for sammiches, or have with crackers.

Peanut butter and jelly/jam/preserves/honey/banana/nutella/your preferred pairing sandwiches or again, with crackers.

Communal meals are a good idea, just make sure the menu is agreed on (and maybe write it down and post it in the kitchen). Have everyone chip in a few dollars for the materials and figure out who the best cooks are then work out some way to bribe them to do most of the cooking.

Deli sandwiches! Your choices of meat and cheese with mustard or mayo on your choice of bread. Sliced meats and cheeses don't take up much fridge space, nor do jars of mustard or mayo, and bread can be refrigerated or not, depending on your preference.

My current sandwich of choice: El Toro Sweet Serrano Ham, Boar's Head Genoa Salami, Boar's Head Havarti Cheese with Dill, and Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard on Arnold's Jewish Rye Bread. (I'm picky.) And it takes up minimal fridge space!
