    Should I enter the snake pit?

    When you lie down with snakes, chances are you are going to get bit. It is the nature of snakes...

    I am told that I have a patience and wisdom beyond my years, and a different way of looking at things. I am considering entering the snake pit known as Youtube as a 'Video Blogger'. I know my views are not mainstream, that I have a constant foot in mouth problem, and that a lot more are going to hate what I have to say then like it. I am ok with this. I am not asking, however, if I should or should not do this. I am asking for more .. technical advice. With my mind issues, the fact I've never uploaded a single video, and have the attention span of goldfish that has ADD, ADHD, and Alzheimers will I understand HOW to do this. Or will I be swimming upstream while pulling the Titanic behind me?

    If anybody currently knows about this, please start me off on the right track. Is there a decent webcam that is also decently priced that will work, or will I have to resign myself to the fact that I would have to sell two arms and a leg of mine to even come close? Is there an editing program that somebody with my mind issues could use, or would it be like trying to solve a Sudoku while spinning in a tilt-a-whirl that also happens to have the person upside down? Am I going to be way over my head, or just a couple feet over my head?

    Youtube is stupid easy as far as uploading and editing go so don't worry about that. It can take just about any crap you throw at it and convert into something watchable.

    As for a camera, I imagine you're not going for super high production values. So you'll just want a straight quality web cam that's capable of 720p HD or so from a good brand name. Thus I would recommend something like a Logitech C920. Its 100 bucks or so, does what you want it too and the quality is decent enough that people won't bitch about your video quality on Youtube.

    Editing wise if you're just going to ramble in front of it, Windows Movie Maker is fine, free and simple to use.

      Ok. $100 is out of my range, but it is a good thing to know what I need. Thank you. Looks like I will have to squirrel back a few dollars at a time until I can afford it, but I am patient so .. .

        If the budget is that tight, there is a basic model, the C270, its $40. Its not quite as good but its still decent if you're just going to talk / podcast. Here's a quality example. If you're fine with the picture quality you can always get a better mic for it down the road for better sound quality. As it seems to pick up a bit of reverb in larger rooms.

        Its really up to you how much picture quality you're comfortable with and how professional you want this to look. Youtubers will spare you as long as you've got at least 720p on tap.

        My camcorder is old and shitty but it suffices for stupid videos of my cat on Youtube. -.-

          My budget is non existent (though the $40 is definitely doable) as I am saving up to Visit England. , but yeah the quality I want decent.. I am contemplating the title Mytical's Musings. Start out with specific topics in mind ... but after/if I get followers (either haters or those who like me) doing like Epic Rapbattle/etc (ie have people suggest topics NOTE I WILL NOT BE RAPPING. I would not torment people like that. Just the idea of having people do the suggestions lol). I expect more trolls/haters then those who like/follow/etc as my views are ... definitely not main stream. Lol.

            Might be best to just go with the basic one and feel out how you like Youtubing then. If you like it, great you can save towards a better camera if you want. If you don't, then you're only out $40 so its not too big a deal. Being out $100 would be a tad more irksome however.

            My camcorder was $350 a few years back and is picture quality can be matched by camera's 1/4th the price now. It is irksome. >.>
