  • Motor Club Recommendations?

I'm trying to decide whether to sign up for AAA or Allstate Motor Club. As far as I can tell, their benefits are pretty much the same.

Do any of you have any experience with either of these companies and any personal advice on which I should choose? TYIA!

Your location info doesn't say where in the state you are, but Argabarga would probably be able to help you. From other threads, it seems that various auto clubs are pissing off service providers (refusing to pay bills because of something in the billing info, even when the "wrong" info came straight from the request-for-service fax from the auto club), so the service providers are not renewing contracts with the auto clubs in question. He'd probably be able to tell you (most likely by PM) which option is in better standing with his company - a club without providers wouldn't be able to give you the service you'd be paying for.

Off-hand, I'd say AAA would be a better bet. Road service is the core of their business (unlike Allstate, where it's probably a "perk" for their insurance customers), so they are less likely to be able to afford to tick off their providers.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

Right now I'm in PA, but I'm planning to move to WA sometime this year. That's a really long trip, and I want to make sure I'm covered in case anything happens along the way.

I've done quite a bit of cross country driving and I've never been displeased with AAA. Granted, the only thing I've ever needed them for was for getting locked out, but they've always had very reasonable response times. I can't say anything about any of the others, since I have no experience with them.

I got AAA years ago when my husband started travelling for his job. I have not used it often. But when I have--out of gas, jump, flat tire--they have always been prompt.

I am currently away from home and it's a comfort to me to know that if something happens to my car, that I can call someone.

I'd go with AAA, never had an issue with them.

Everyone else is either an outgrowth of some auto insurance company that doesn't always "get" what roadservice is all about, or a name that's been sold, merged and re-merged into some overseas callcenter operation at this point. And those are the ones that try to skimp. AAA realizes their entire reputation is built on 100 years of NEVER skimping and it shows.

The only ones I'd ever directly tell anyone to stay away with have already gone out of business.

Out of curiosity, ever had issues with USAA?

We get less than a call a week for them, insufficient sample size to make a judgement.

USAA has always provided insurance on my vehicles, and now my home. 20 years, and I've never had a problem. I do know that they offer towing and assistance, but I've never used it. It's simply more convenient to use AAA. AAA seems to be more common--their trucks are everywhere.

USAA is my everything provider too. I have used their towing and assistance line several times: never had a problem. They call someone local that they associate with, which was why I was curious for Argabarga's opinion.
