  • Food resources in Denver? (also a DHS rant...thanks for listening)

Hi everyone. So it seems our highly dedicated and professional Department of Human Services lost our paperwork yet again (I emailed it, faxed it AND hand-delivered it this time). They also didn't bother to send us a notice that they were missing it, despite having a working postal address for us. We found out we've been cut off by logging in and seeing an empty account.

So now I have $50 to feed three people for at least a month, possibly more (since that's how long it takes them to fix their own mistakes...federal law says that any mistakes have to be resolved in 30 days...HA! They've done this three times already, every time our info changes, and it's never taken less than 45 days).

I may be able to yell at DHS enough that they'll give us a food voucher (not really yelling, mind, just asking politely why it is too damn difficult for them to DO THEIR JOBS the way that FEDERAL LAW requires), but that's not assured.

Anybody know any food resources in Denver? Food banks or otherwise? I know of a few but not many, and most of the ones I know about give you shopping bags of candy and Twinkies. I told the DHS people that and the guy just scoffed and said "they aren't giving out candy, nobody goes hungry in Denver" and showed me the door. Yeah, you believe that if it'll make you feel better, chum. YOU go home to a fridge full of food.

first call for help is usually the clearinghouse for any kind of assistance- it's 211.
Run by the united way. search is available on website, and referrals by phone.

Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Try churches in your area. The United Methodist Church is pretty good about helping people with food - not so much on paying bills, but they can usually find some food for you. Other than that, food banks, if they exist, and shelters can be a good resource. I'm sorry <hugs> I've been there more times than I like to remember.

Would it be possible for us in the CS community to contribute a little something something to Wishful Spirit to help feed these three people? I would certainly contribute. I'm not wealthy by any means, but I'd like to help here if I can. Mods, would this be within the rules of this site?

WS, do you have a PayPal account that would be able to receive such funds, if the mods approved such a virtual food drive?

I'm not sure if that's the way to go about it...

Why not? Just indicate why it's getting reported. I've done it for something as small as "Hey, I messed up; can you combine these posts?" The report button isn't just for bad stuff.

The other option is sending one of the mods/admins (Raps is probably your best bet) a PM to get their attention

Correct. Either a report or a PM is the best way to get our attention. Otherwise, with all the traffic on this board, it might be awhile before we stumble across it.

It's late, and I'm exhausted, so I'll defer to the other mods for now.
