  • Pitbull

I have a very sweet pitbull "puppy", Caoilfhionn. She's actually a little over a year old, but she thinks she's still a baby.

She is a huge licker. She also gets jealous of my other two dogs, when they're getting petted or getting treats, she inserts herself so that she can get the treats or the pets, or whatever.

She is also very rambunctious and excitable. For that reason, her attention span is short, and I'm not sure how to better get her attention where she would be more receptive to training, and less destructive.

This is the first pitbull I've ever had; although I've had dogs all my life, I've never tried training such a ball of energy before.

We need pictures of the furbabies, regardless of size.

At that age, she really hasn't finished growing up yet. She'll calm down eventually.

      Your wish is my command.

This is a picture of Caoilfhionn and her "big" brother, Emrys, who is a Chug.

        I'm getting broken image links.

Please give all the puppies hugs from me.

They seem to be working for me now. If not, go to Erinesque's profile and you should be able to see "Albums" on the right side of the screen.

It might help to buy a dog training clicker and some treats, and start with a basic command like "sit." The clicker gets her attention, and if she listens, she gets a treat.

I picked up a Boxer with some mastiff in him at the pound over a year ago he was one and half. I started training him right away he understands commands in 4 languages, I broke him of some food aggression issues. he has the same "your petting someone other than me" issue.

How to deal with all of this.

The attention issue is easy, give each dog the same time and type of affection. if you give one dog a 1 min ear scratch do the same for the next dog. Take them for individual walks of the same time. remember dogs have the thought process of about a 2 year old human.

The Clicker idea is great get some very small treats and start working : Command .. Click.. Command .. Compliance .. treat: No Compliance or a failed attempt no treat.

Do everything the same way at the same time everyday. From when breakfast is to when dinner is, when their walk is to when play time is. Routine Routine routine name of the game.

Dogs are pack animals you must be the leader of the pack, when they do wrong after a slight scolding i find shunning them for a few hours is very effective. Dont look at, talk to, or engaged in anything with the misbehaving animal. They want to please the pack leader.

Above all else be consistent in everything you do with them.
