I reached a milestone of sorts, paid far enough along that my property tax and mortgage escrow may be cancelled. I put in their request and got a letter approving that cancellation
. Now the interest will be mine and their is no minimum balance requirement (Ghel, is there really such a regulation?), no more analysis based on bogus information (e.g. Cook County's chronically and illegally late tax bills).
The date that the escrow account was to close was yesterday. I checked on the website. My escrow is still there with the next installment (August 1) including the escrow payment. There was an acknowledgement of my cancellation request with the status listed as 'UNKNOWN". I called their customer service. The rep found the information and informed my that they will be doing one last escrow analysis which will take another week and refund any escrow balance.
QUERY: Is this typical does a escrow closure really take this long?
