  • Need another roommate

Okay, so I'm mostly posting stuff on Craigslist right now. Any other sites? I'd like to put up notices at my school too since it's only 20min away, but it won't do me much good since it's summer and there's only about 15 of us in classes right now.

Also, what sorts of things are red flags when you speak to someone to interview them? My landlord needs to look at their financials and okay them to move in, so I'm not worried about them paying rent or not - but what sorts of other questions should I be asking? I am notably far too nice to everyone I'd just met so my current roommate will be helping me interview too. I assume I have to lay out things like our guest policies because all of our apartment agreements are already in place, we're mostly looking for someone who just won't rock the boat much - we both work from home so we're hoping to find someone who's gone a lot for work and/or really quiet. How do we really word that though? We're using it as sleeping space and office space for freelance art and animation, but it's officially residential.

    Gah.

Edit: Just remembered my location isn't on here. I'm in the NYC area if that makes any difference.

I had good luck with roommates.com. We're on our 3rd year living together. It does cost to be able to use all the features (if I recall correctly there is a free basic membership option but it's limited in what you can do), but there are different levels so you can sign up for a month or whatever and see how it goes (it was about $20 for a month). You can post if you have a room to rent out or are looking for a place to live. (And if you are looking for a place, you can also opt to be matched to people who are also looking for a place, which is how my roommate and I got matched.)

As for questions...I did this thread back when I was looking to move. I'll see if I can find it and post the link.

    Edit: Here you go.

You can say it just like that. Some people like to party and some people (including me) like to have quieter homes. You could also ask what a normal week is like for them, that way you can get a feel for what kind of schedule they have as well as what they enjoy doing. Also if they will be spending a lot of day time hanging out around the apartment then just tell them that souldn't be a problem but you do work from home so you will need things to be relativly quiet and/or contained to a specific part of the apartment.

I know finding a good roommate can be difficult so best of luck!
