  • I Hate To Feel Like This but

For the first time in my working life I am dreading going to work tomorrow. They have taken any satisfaction of the work out of it with their ridiculous targets and rules, and the atmosphere is very bad and I am sure to be carded again over something stupid, if not actually put on report.

    This is a sign.

A simple sign, really. A sign that reads: "Time to find a new job!"

So pick up the paper, get online, pound the pavement, and go find yourself a new place to work. It will not only take your mind off the crap that your job has become, but it will give you some hope, some positive energy, and hopefully will help you land that new, better job.

Pretty much what happened to me three and a half years ago when my job at the hotel turned to crap and I couldn't stand working under Shit Weasel anymore.

I agree with Jester - I actually was at the point at my old job where i didn't feel bad if I called in sick for no reason or because I just didn't want to come in

Then I scored my current job, and 'tis AWESOME! No regrets, and NEVER going back.

There is some almost good news on the horizon - I had been putting my cv out there for some time, but it appeared to be useless (I have too much seniority for the jobs I am applying for - there appear to be many low level jobs out there at the moment) or else I don't have some VITAL experience for a job which I could do, this one piece of experience missing.

Yesterday, I recieved a reply to say that a company would not consider me for the jobrole I originally applied for, but are interested in looking at me for a different jobrole, it sounds interesting, completely different from what I am doing at the moment and something I could do.I would lose a little salary but to be honest I would rather ENJOY my work!

This company have other candidates to see but it seems a good omen that they actually thought of me for this other position.

So maybe things are looking up now.

Edit, oh and I am not working today, so I am spending some time surfing job sites and looking more closely at options.

I cannot stress how important this is. My dear mother is the happiest person that I have ever met, she makes about half of what she did in the past (and what she could still easily make) but she loves her job, she loves the organization that she works for, and she loves the people that she works with. This doesn't mean that she doesn't get stressed about work, or pull really long hours, or deal with suck but when she does she knows that dealing with that kind of stuff is worth it. People seem to forget that work can and should be fufilling, after all you spend about 1/3 of your day at work.

Back when I was at the concierge desk I hated it, there was so much stress about quotas and I could not stand my boss so I was constantly on the verge of breaking down. I'm much happier at the rec desk, even though the pay isn't as good. I'm actually finding that money isn't as tight because I don't feel the need to buy things to help me de-stress like video games and bath stuff plus I'm not too stressed out and tired to find the time to make breakfast, lunch, and dinner for both myself and J so we aren't spending much of anything on eating out or picking stuff up (which adds up fast).

Jester's advice, as usual, is bang-on. When you start feeling like all the joy has gone out of life just because you're on your way to work, it's time to move on.

This is all that really needs to be said.
