planning on moving sometime in the next couple years...

i know i haven't posted much or had much to say lately. But this is the most amusing site i have ever been lucky to be a member of.

that being said, me and my fiancee were thinking about moving to baltimore or at least somewhere fairly close to it. I know nothing about the area other than they really like crabs. if anyone here can maybe tell me anything good or bad about the area would very much be appreciated.

Also, fun things to do would be helpful as I have never been to the east coast in my life. Been a washingtonian, you know.

I am also a member of facebook and i'm a serious addict of the games. If anybody needs neighbors, i play farmville, cafe world, country life. Its very sad and im sorry to admit it.

I've never been to that neck of the woods, so the best moving advice I can give is lighten the load beforehand. Use this guide if you decide to donate the stuff you aren't taking cross-country. Never decline a tax receipt and keep each load under $5000 per organization per day.

Chances are, you can buy kitchen ware and home furnishings for less than the cost of moving them 3000 miles.

Also if you can, have a job waiting for you there. That way you can write off your moving expenses. Yes, you can PM me with further questions about this.

I grew up in Maryland. It's very expensive to live there. High cost of living, high taxes, etc. The summers are hot but central A/C is common and you can expect snow a few times a year. It's one of the most liberal states in the US.

Have you seen The Wire? That's Baltimore for you. Ok, so it's not all ghetto, but most people with money live in the suburbs. There are some nicer areas though I'd have to check with people who live there to see where they are now. Let me know if you want me to do that.

Fun stuff? I lived in the suburbs (Howard County, if you're interested), which was boring, especially as a teenager. I love going to DC. Tons of free museums, tons of historical stuff, cool neighborhoods, great restaurants. You'll only be a few hours from the beach, which is warm enough to swim in most of the year. Once you get out to the country, it is beautiful.

Two of my most powerful memories of the States are from that general area.

1. Walking in a temperate deciduous forest with a biologist who'd grown up near that forest.

2. The Air and Space Museum. And touching a piece of the moon. And the museum in general. But touching a piece of the moon....


When I win big on the lottery (I should buy a ticket someday), I'll rent a holiday apartment in DC and spend a month going through the Smithsonian.

I have family in Maryland and have been there a number of times, but I'm not familiar with Baltimore. Last time I was there was a day trip with my friends during Senior week in college.
