  • So Much For Attempting To Be Healthy...

I ended up admitted to hospital on Wednesday with a high temperature, high blood pressure and internal infection, and stayed there till late last night, then I came home and now I still feel like I got run over by a truck.

LOL that can only happen to me when I start taking an interest in being healthy............................

Did they give you a diet list on discharge? Or do you have to see your GP for that? Because as much as we know about this stuff, it can be a real psychological help to get it from your doctor. (I have to do this, the doctor said so, it's not just good general advice from Whiskey and Seshat).

They didn't, but they have made arrangements for me to see I think two different types of specialist so maybe they will do it then.I don't know what they said about that asI was feeling so ill when they said it, so I will have to wait for the appointment letters.

Yeah, that's why you typically want someone with you during appointments when you're feeling that horrible. I think you need more hugs, so I'll give you more if you want: . I first saw you feeling poorly in the Diet thread, so my "omgfeelbettersoon" is there.
... Seriously. Strange Girl On The Intertubes says "I wish for you to be better soon." I'm praying that this isn't a heart infection or something bizzare or difficult to fix, because that would just stink. But, also, I don't want to borrow trouble, so just ignore my worrying.

Oh no! I hope you feel better.

Depending on what your diet is now, you may be better off changing it more slowly to healthy things, give your body a chance to adjust and so on. I don't know how big of a change you're trying to make, but if you already have some health issues then it could be a shock to the system (plus if you make it super-healthy all at once, some people find that harder to stick to than small changes over time). Anyway, talk to a doctor about the diet change stuff, even if it's just your regular doctor and not a dietician.

Don't believe the title of this thread. Setbacks are part of life. They HAPPEN. And you WILL have days, even weeks, when you just don't eat healthily, or don't do your exercise.

Just let them slide, forgive yourself, and keep going.

Guilt isn't a long-term motivator. In the long term, it reduces your self-esteem and makes you feel worse.

Instead, find little goals. Me, I've just managed to go around the block, then a quarter of the way around the block again, THREE DAYS IN A ROW! WHOOT!

For me, that's big. It's a reason to be proud. It's an accomplishment. AND I emptied the dishwasher. Go me!

Mind you, before I got this winter's flu, I was going one-and-a-third around the block. I've had to rebuild to get up to one-and-a-quarter, and it's taken me a full month. But if I dwell on that, I'll just make myself miserable and get nowhere.

It's much more helpful to focus on the fact that I have managed to get back to the one-and-a-quarter.

Damn. I've managed to phrase this as if it were all about me. It's not. I'm trying to use me as an example of a helpful and useful way to think about setbacks.

If you've understood, great. If not, maybe someone who has can translate for me? I'm not doing well tonight.
                      Seshat's self-help guide:
                      1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
                      2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                      3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                      4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
