  • Having to find a new job

Well..when the new boss first arrived, he had taken a dislike to me.. but for the most part just left me be.

Lately, because I've been a bit vocal about how he's been here less then 90 days and already has missed 5 days (3 more scheduled soon) he has decided that he is going to make my life miserable. So now I am forced back into 'the hole'.

Let me explain the hole. It is an office behind mine that is totally closed off (even has one way windows that can be seen out of but not into)..and nothing to do. It is camera monitored, and I am not allowed to take anything to do into there with me. So it will be me staring at 4 walls with absolutely nothing to do for the big part of 8 hours (or more if I have to work overtime). I will go totally bat**** crazy, ok well more then I do now.

Also, he is going to nitpick everything until I quit. I can feel it coming in the air. So..I have no choice but to seek new employment. Problem is my health issues. Can't do manual labor for the most part, and only have pretty much clerical/security experience. Most Security jobs require a lot more physical work then what I do now, and my job is security..but at this job I mostly do clerical work.

So I have no idea what to do. Most places will not probably hire me because of my limitations, and I doubt I will have this job for long. I don't want to rely on the government for anything (docs say I am 'disabled', but I never put in for disability).

Any advice would help, any at all.

In my city theres a program for the mentally ill and disabled called.. Employment Opportunity something or other. Its local. Look into something like that. It helps people with disabilities get jobs, instead of being passed over. Not to mention, employers get a tax break for being involved in such programs and hiring disabled people. You don't need to confirm your disability with anyone, or disclose it to your employer. You don't even need to say youre disabled as they help the non-disabled too. Its as covert as possible about who they help. Check with your local welfare office as well, they may have a "Welfare to work" program that is essentially a loan process. They give you money to live on, and help you find a job. Once you've found a job, you slowly pay back the money the state gave you to live on. Not all programs require the money back.

If you do end up signing up for disability, you can still work. I don't know if it varies by state, but I know in California you can't make more than 9k/year while on disability. It would at least ensure you get medicaid/medicare to care for your health issues. Disability services isn't a shameful thing, you're at a disadvantage because of your health and sometimes you need help. All it does is help put you on an semi-even playing field with everyone else.

Spent two hours in the hole..can not spend another minute. Don't care if they fire me. Any long length of time in there and I would need another little cell..this one with padding on it.

        I second everything Whiskey said.

We have disability-to-work programs here, too. They're federal for Aussieland, but otherwise it's pretty much exactly what she said.

Put in for disability, it'll help cover your medical costs, and will be a safety net for you to fall back on when your health issues make it harder for you to find work.

As for your current situation: "hostile work environment"!

        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Well..I have to say .. that I have no clue what I am going to do. Just went back to fetch something from The Hole. Yesterday I was lucky enough I didn't have to be in it because IT was working in it. Today I found out why.

They have put more equipment in there. Now with the equipment it had..it was a bit smaller then an 8'x10' prison cell. Which I paced like a caged animal the whole time I was inside it. Because I have a severe dislike of enclosed places for extended periods of time. The ONLY exception being elevators, which really don't bother me.

There is now MORE equipment, meaning it is now smaller. I .. just don't know what I am going to do. It means my job if I don't go back there. My meditation techniques I have learned do not help..even my zen like patients with people and things goes out the window. The term 'caged animal' is more apt then people may think.

Can't afford to quit, or get fired, there is nothing 'illegal' about it, and there is nothing 'documented'. I've tried explaining to management, but all they say is 'if you don't have documentation that you have this problem, you have to suck it up'.

Can't afford to go to a shrink to get documentation. Yay. Really really have no clue what I am going to do.

I still don't know why you have to be confined in there. Are you watching cameras or something?

That is their 'reasoning' though I have cameras out in the office I normally am in. There are also other instruments that we are supposed to watch, but they are things like a pressure gage, etc. Stuff Security has no reason to be watching.

If I were you, I'd go talk to a psychologist and see about getting a medical waiver for working in there since it's now smaller than it was.

You hired on with a certain level of expectation, and they are now changing it after the fact. If you have a legitimate issue with claustrophobia, they should have to find a way to work around what they changed.

Of course, I have no idea how practical that can be for you, but for the things like gauges, nobody should need to have to watch them; they should all be alarmed. Then again, that might make too much sense...
