  • Anyone Ever Been Hypnotized?

My work is offering free hypnotism sessions for quitting smoking. I took them up on the offer. It's not for almost a month, but I wanted some input.

Even if you didn't have it for quitting smoking, if you've ever been hypnotized, tell me all about it, please

And anything you think I may need to know before I go.

Didn't really work on me. For some people it works, for others it doesn't. I kinda had a feeling it wasn't going to work on me. I do have plenty of friends who have been hypnotized though.

The main thing is to be relaxed. If you focus too much on it, it'll be harder to do.

I've never tried it, but I think it has a lot to do with mindset. If a person feels that hypnotism will work, it's more likely that it will work on them, than say, a person who goes up there for the sole purpose of proving "this is silly and won't work on me". I know people who do this to the guy who does hypnotism shows at the fair every year just to make him look silly.

I was on stage for a couple hypnotism shows in college doing random silly stuff.

I dunno. I just thought of it as playing along.

There was already one wave of employees who did the hypnotism, all the spots filled up so fast that I missed that one, thankfully I got a chance this time.

The results have been.....well, a few people have, most haven't. I did hear that at one session, there was a bunch of night shifters who fell asleep during the session (it was in the afternoon), and they actually started snoring and it distracted the others so it didn't work.

I was able to sign up for one still decently early in the morning, so I'm hoping I don't fall asleep.

I've been hypnotized, but it was for the senior all-night party when I graduated high school. It felt...weird. Like I should be able to just ignore what he was saying, but yet I ended up doing everything he said, anyway. I don't know that I liked that very much.

But apparently, I'm really easy to hypnotize.

Just remember, it is very difficult to get somebody to do something they normally would not do..almost impossible. I've never been hypnotized, but I have hypnotized somebody once. It was tried on me, but never took. Mostly because of STS..lol if your mind is easily distracted..it is harder to be hypnotized.

I've never had an opportunity to be hypnotized, but I know it wouldn't work. I have control issues.

That said, you cannot be made to do anything you aren't willing to do already.

Hypnotism just sort of lowers inhibitions, if successful, and if you would normally do something but for some reason won't/can't (like stopping smoking) it can help. You can't cause somebody to do something like kill somebody (unlike what the movies suggest), unless they normally would. Most 'small' stuff, like sticking out your tongue, clucking like a chicken, etc people will do.

Almost anybody can be hypnotized, even myself, but for some people it takes a few things.

                  1) Somebody they trust. If you do not trust the person trying to hypnotize you, your mind will resist, even subconsciously, and utilize anything at it's disposal to do so..even if that is subconsciously thinking of different things so the hypnotism does not take hold.

                  2) Somewhere they are comfortable. Like the above, some people just don't relax just anywhere. Some people can be perfectly comfortable on a couch with a professional..some people can't. If you are not comfortable, and that means totally relaxed..it sometimes will not take hold.

                  3) Lowered inhibitions. Hypnotism is a bit easier if somebody has had a few drinks. Helps lessen the first two issues.

I haven't had a cigarette since before I left the apartment at 9:30 am Wednesday morning.

I'm not sure if this will be successfull, but I do know that being in a hypnotic state is real. I have a wicked bad head and chest cold right now, and the entire time I was "under" I didn't cough or sniffle once, despite needing a tissue or having to cough every few minutes when not under.
