How much is the 3G kindle?

I could look it up myself but I'm lazy. I'm thinking I'd like one when my tax refund comes in.
    $189 for the 3G. $139 for the wi-fi.

You might be able to start adding books before you actually get the device. If not, you can put them into a shopping or wish list to be purchased as soon as you can register the device.
I was going to do the latter, actually.

What I really wanted to do was to make my friend Popcorn's first published novel as my very first Kindle buy. Unfortunately, his novel is not available electronically. I gave him hell for that.

What are your laptop requirements, and which ones are you considering?
I talked about all of that in my other thread in this forum asking for Computer Geek help....

        THANKS, EVERYONE!

Seriously, folks, thanks for all the help.

I got my Kindle today, and have already downloaded a bunch of free stuff on to it. Haven't even started on my Mom's gift card yet, which will probably be exhausted within minutes, I'm sure.

Also, it is disturbingly easy to get my recipes on to my Kindle. I don't even have to use the USB cable (which, by the way, is ingenious in that one cable is convertible and can be either power cord or the USB cord). I simply email an attachment of the recipe file in question, without changing it to some other form other than the original Word format it's in, to an email address that was automatically generated when I registered my Kindle. (Which, since I already had an Amazon account when I purchased my Kindle, it was automatically registered to that account.) And within about a minute or two, the recipe file is converted to a Kindle-ready file and downloaded to the Kindle. I just ran a test case with one of my recipes, and it was so easy it almost hurt.

Anyway, having loads of fun with it, and haven't even really used it for its primary purpose yet....reading.

I did that with my GPS when I first got it. Used it for everything else but driving.

I spent a good day playing around with the functions and the voices.

The thing is, there are actual GAMES you can download for the Kindle. Not the fancy schmancy WoW-type games, either. Stupid games. MY kind of games. WORD GAMES. (I love word puzzles, and am pretty damn impressive when it comes to cryptograms....and if I find a cryptogram app for the Kindle, I'm toast!) Even, dare I say it, Minesweeper! (Though without a mouse, it is a very slow and tedious version.)

But the important thing is that by the time I get on a plane for Phoenix in (good lord, it's coming up soon) 13 days, I'll have plenty of reading material to choose from, not to mention many of my recipes if I decide to cook for any of my friends or family.....and will have far more room than normal in my carry-on.

                I already have almost 50.

Okay, to be fair, I've only "purchased" from the free library so far, plus about 3 dollar or less books.

But I will be spending Mom's gift card entirely on it. And, for once, I get to show Mom what she bought me, as I will, of course, be taking my Kindle on my trip with me.

My big problem is that I read a lot about serial killers, and they are lumped in with all the rest of the true crime with no real differentiation within the category. Rather annoying, to be honest.
