  • Vacation!

I want to take a vacation when I come home for a month in July to get a break from the sandbox. I want the Bahamas. Yes, yes, hot as hell. Well, I'm in Afghanistan, hot is what I deal with. I was originally planning for three nights, but if you book four, you save like $300-something. For the Atlantis, for four nights, roundtrip plane tickets (1 stop each way), transportation, and food, it will be around $1,550 per person. I already have my passport but she needs to get hers. We just gotta inform our parents then I'll book it after payday (4/20) and she'll pay me back.

Basically, I just want to know if you guys think it's a good deal or not. I'm desperate for a vacation and it would be with an awesome friend. I want somewhere tropical and the Bahamas hits the spot. It's low key but we can still hit packed bars. Plus they have tons of huge pools and a nice piece of beach property. As I said, I have to wait until the 20th anyway to have enough money to afford it.

    So, good idea?

Summer will be the slow season, so don't expect big crowds but you may be able to get some decent deals.

It seems like a good deal. The only thing to worry about is July is in the middle of hurricane season. There's a chance your trip would be a no-go.

Everything I've heard about Atlantis has been that it's the bomb McDiggity. 'Nuff said.

It sounds like a good deal. Just remember, it won't include alcohol or other expenses to be sure to budget for it. I'd plan on taking at least another $500-1000 if you can manage it (better to have more than you need, than not enough to do what you want). I'm sure some prices will be a lot less than the States, but others will be marked up for tourists. Going off season should make it a bit less expensive.

Keep yourself safe until July and have a great trip!

          Thanks for everything you do!

Yea, I'll definitely be bringing a few hundred bucks for boozing and fun.

I'm sure we'll be okay. Hurricane season doesn't really pick up until August/September. That's when hurricane season is at it's worst.

Honestly, I don't care if it's packed. I just want to kick back and relax. One of my co-workers was trying to get me to go throughout Europe or SE Asia to party but I really just want to relax. As of today, I've worked 84 days straight. It'd be nice to be able to sleep in past 7am for just one day.

Summer is high tourist season for Europe. Which means expensive unless you plan to stay in youth hostels and eat on the cheap, which is not what I think you really want to do.

I don't know much about costs in SE Asia . . . but after months in a place where the local populace doesn't speak English, I think I'd want to spend my vacation in a country that speaks my lingo.

I'll let my co-worker do his own thing. He's taking R&R in May and he's going to Greece. Poor Greece...
