We had a huge lice problem when I was a kid.......a friend who lived on a farm, her mother knowingly sending her to school and to play at friend's houses......then when we all ended up with it "Ooopsies, yeah, we have a lice problem...no, we haven't done anything about it" from that Mom.........oh my lord, it was horrible.

At the time, my parents were dirt poor, so it really hurt that we ended up having to trash whatever linens and pillowcases were on all of our beds, trash some clothes, OTC lice shampoo didn't work....I had to get prescription strength stuff, my brother's head got shaved, we had to spray the hell out of all the furniture and call an exterminator. Shit. You. NOT. My parents both got it as well. Dad for some reason had an easy time getting rid of them, but we were constantly finding them all over the beds and furniture and nothing was salvagable, my parents figured trash it all.

Thinking back on it, I'm not even sure if those were lice. Whatever they were, it was HORRIBLE and it was an ordeal that went on for well over a month or two, and that girl infected almost all of the girls in our class, not to mention family members.

Just wanted to pass along an update and a serious thanks for all the advice - didn't get any lice, but that trick with the heavy conditioning and combing out in the shower was a great one (nothing against mayo, but in the hair... wasn't desperate enough to try that one out) as did the freezing bit, I honestly thought I was going to have to toss out one of my favorite hats. Thank you guys!

The family is... yeah, still family, but they seem to have their own lice issues under control now. Now I can get back to praying that my hubby was kidding when he offered the idea of having his mother move in with us for a month when we get our two bedroom place in August

"Just until she can get into the retirement apartments!" aka. Get on the list and drive me fracking insane until they take her, which will be likely longer than a month, and will mean I can't set up the spare bedroom as the baby's room - sure he'll be co-sleeping with us, but still. Space! I need! Moving and giving birth is enough on my plate, I don't need a mother-in-law too!

I might just have to sic my mom on him on that topic, cause he sure as hell isn't listening to my opinion on how bad of an idea that happens to be.
Okay everyone, lets all point and laugh at him right about....

      Now.

        Dying your hair helps, too.
        I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

          saying 'Please don't come over'
Don't use the word "please". To her ears, that means whatever follows is still an option. Instead, make it plain and clear "Do not come over." And then follow-up. If she shows up, either don't answer the door, or do so long enough to tell her "I told you not to come over, we can not visit with you right now. Good-bey." and then close the door. If she needs to use the computer, she can go use one at the local library.
