Does anyone know how to make cats stop fighting each other, short of getting rid of one?

When do they start fighting, mealtime, anytime when one is within a million miles of the other? Is one new or have they both been together for the same amount of time?

It all depends on the circumstances and if something is going on that might be triggering the fighting. Ours tend to get into when one seems to be annoying the other. They mostly behave, but once in a while Neko will bop Aiva and run off.

I don't know if they still suggest spritzing them with water when they start acting up, but maybe that might help. I don't know what else to suggest at this point.
    Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
    DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

It wasn't at mealtime, they just started at each other. I have no clue what caused it.
I will try the water trick though.

You could do what I heard of once: a can of coins. Shake it at them aggressively/in their vicinity when they start in. It has to be loud and enough to scare the piss out of 'em, like a tin can with 50 pennies sort of a thing. Less wet, more noise.

Is it a dominance thing i.e. have you had one cat longer than the other?
Have they both been desexed? (for a male, the operation is generally a LOT shorter and easier to do, since there's no stitches involved)

Both of these things can cause problems-our two will occasionally playfight, they're both boys and they're desexed. Usually we'll watch them and step in at the first sign of trouble, they don't actually injure each other. Usually the fights are over who gets food or water, or more commonly, over one cat cleaning the other and the other not liking it.

If it's a dominance thing, sort of emphasize that dominance among the household i.e. pick up the "alpha" male first and whatnot.

My parents put their cats on Valium when they had that problem. Kept them on it for a couple of months. Ask their vet. If one is aggressive and testy (even to you) it could also be a symptom of other conditions, including hyperthyroidism.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!
