  • Dry Mouth Issues, cause and solution?

Feel dumb because this hasn't happened to me before and it probably is the medicine I am taking but this would be the first time as a side affect or not being sick that its happened to me.

Every morning for the past few days I have woken up with what I feel is severe dry mouth in that I NEED that glass of water on my night stand. All of it. Have been waking up at night needing to drink some water as well.

Before I ask to solve the mystery here is my night routine to help clear away some of the "mystery"

-Standing Fan left on low turned away from myself and daughter's crib mostly for white noise and to circulate some air as there is no ceiling fan in the house.

-Don't have anything past 7pm and If I have the munchies its either water or juice. There is a glass of water on the night stand if i recall the sticker said 30 something ounces before it was removed.

-I have begun a new birth control in which I have noticed frequent urination, or at least more than usual for me. Also waking up at night to continue using the bathroom.

Not to jump to conclusions but could it be caused by the new birth control or new diet? I have almost eliminated soda from my drinking habits as its something I enjoy but chose not to have anymore. Mostly as I don't want daughter to have it for a while either so if she doesn't see her mom drinking it she won't want it.

Lots of medications have dry mouth as a side effect. I know two of the medications I take daily and one I take as needed all have that listed and it do cause that in me. As a result, I ALWAYS have a beverage on hand, usually either water or tea sweetened with stevia. There is a line of dental care items (toothpaste, mouthrinse, etc) called Biotine that is targeted at helping with dry mouth. I've never tried them as it might interfere with the active ingredient in Sensodyne which I have to use for my sensitive teeth, so I can't comment on its effectiveness. I've just gotten used to having a beverage on hand and getting up to urinate 2-3 times a night and drinking a cup of water each time.
    Don't wanna; not gonna.

used it for my cotton mouth problems similar to the op, works wonders, though i still put away 2 glasses of water when i wake up it isnt as bad as the 4 i was drinking before.

Breathing through the mouth can cause dryness, and if you're sleeping with your mouth open you may not know it.
        Seshat's self-help guide:
        1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Especially now that it's allergy season (at least where I am) I've been sleeping with my mouth open some nights, more often than I usually do. It was really bad a month or 6 weeks ago when the pollen was just starting here. It's gotten a bit better but there are days I wake up with a sore throat/dry mouth due to breathing through my mouth all night.

dry mouth has becone dry throat which has now become what feels like strep or the sinues draining as allergies or an attempt to aleve it.
either way i am now miserable and do not talk much because it hurts.
try to sleep and if not sleeping propped up or just so my throat is aggravated and end up coughing all night.

thank you for the help. i feel dumb even asking a simple question. for a while i just felt dehydrated in the mornings as in not being 75% water more like 50% due to how much I was using the bathroom.

staying home for a while to get better. If this is allergies its unfair as in when I grew up all my allergies went away, why are they returning now! waa life is unfair. (sucks it up and goes on)
