  • Well.....

Due to recent events in my life, the loss of Plaid being one....I'm going to my first therapy appointment in 3 years. This morning. I'm a bundle of nerves...but I have to do something. The anxiety and depression are having physical and mental effects and it needs to stop.

So wish me luck....I'm trying to get into therapy regularly...but he doesn't have a regular spot open for right now. I'm taking other people's cancelled spots.

Good luck! I hope it helps. I need to get back into therapy at some point, as well...only I can't go back to my old therapist lol.

Hopefully you can have a regular spot soon. :3

Thanks I feel better now...I'm in a better mood and I feel like I'm doing something positive. Still working on getting that regular spot though. I have one more appointment Wednesday and then it's up in the air.

Good! I'm so happy you're getting help! It really, truly is a big step towards feeling/being better. *crosses finger for regular spot opening*

Yay! Keep a diary, every night/day and you'll be able to translate your issues/fears better. I always had questions pop up in my head at odd odd times, so I'd scribble them in my diary or on a posted paper in the house. Then when it was doctor time, I'd take those notes in and work on them.

Hopefully you'll also have some homework from therapy. CBT is good for anxiety, depression. I use it, and use DBT. Helps me a LOT. You're still in the poke around in my head stage with the counselor. It'll take at least 3 or 4 sessions before you really click and get a good relationship going.

I don't have a regular spot, mine's kind of like every 2 weeks. But I still do my group therapy homework, and I actually catch myself doing the homework, implementing it into my daily stuff.

A lot of it is in the WANT. What do you WANT? How do you WANT to do that? What are you expecting, to fulfill that WANT?
Heavy questions, I know. Get the diary habit going first.

Thanks all...I don't think it will take too long to form a relationship...I've been with him before...I finished therapy with him 3 years ago. I went back to him cause I know him and trust him.

Good luck. I hope you get the solutions you're looking for. Just don't do what then GF, now Mrs. TGK did. Say what's really eating you...don't beat around the bush with the petty side issues--especially if you're paying out of pocket.

Eh, there's some stigma about being in therapy, but I have no problem telling people, "Oh, wait, I have counseling that day." My counselor is pretty awesome though, she's helped me deal with some issues I didn't even know I had from my failed marriage. She told me last month I don't need therapy anymore, and I was like, "oh..... but... but I like talking to you!" We were going start meeting once a month instead of bi-weekly, but with my upcoming trial and all I've still been keeping to the same schedule, in case I have a freak out or something.

I thought about the stigma associated with therapy, but at the same time there are MILLIONS of therapists of one form or another and they are all busy as hell...so that means that a lot of people are in therapy at any given time.

I was sad when my therapy ended with this guy 3 years ago....and I don't know how long this run will last yet....

Bundles are a bit cumbersome, might I suggest a bag to keep your nerves in?
                      Sorry I couldn't resist
