how to get a kid to read....need suggestions

this should have been something that was started when she was a toddler, but as I gather from your other posts about her Heather is your Step-daughter, and so you didn't get to establish some early habits - so am not blaming you.

Actually, Heather is my biological daughter - short version is that I was still living at my mom's house when I got pregnant, and Heather was about four when I'd moved out. My intention was to have Heather live with me eventually, but that didn't work out like I'd wanted......so she's been mostly raised by my Mom.

Either way, this, and other posts, have pointed to a difficult job with Heather. :\
One thing about the subtitles-- might go too fast, I have that issue with involved things... even though I can read very fast.
And, some people just aren't cut out for reading. After all, dyslexia and high intelligence/interest in learning seem to go hand in hand...
