  • Should I call animal control?

I live in a moderately-sized neighborhood, off a busy road, in a suburban area. I walk about 1-3 miles a day doing laps in the neighborhood, because of aforesaid busy road. There is a house on the corner of the two main roads in the neighborhood, and they have dogs (no big deal, over half the neighborhood has dog/s). They have no fenced in yard.

They let the dogs run loose when the dogs want out.

Now, when they had two dogs, it was fine. Two small dogs, one didn't bother me, the other one barked at me a few times, then quit. They got two new dogs. One is tiny and keeps around their porch. The other is also small (~10 lbs), and keeps charging at me when I walk past their house.

I like dogs, I really do. But this one.... I've been tempted to start walking with my staff just for their house. I'm terrified that some kid is going to be attacked by this dog. Hell, I'm worried I'll be attacked by this dog. The owners don't do anything unless they are outside when the dogs are (Once, all week), so should I call animal control?

    This might help.

    Check out section 10-11

If they are on the sidewalk or street, they have left their property.

I am not a fan of letting a dog run loose. That is how they get run over. You will be doing the dogs a favor.

Small dogs can cause more damage than large dogs in some cases. Size has no bearing on aggressiveness or potential for injury.

Letting dogs run loose is not good for them. Aside from the risk of being run over or stolen, there is the risk that they will bite someone . . . dogs are territorial after all.

Once a dog has been labeled as dangerous, one bite and it is put down. And all because the stupid owner didn't socialize the dog, or keep it on a leash or penned.

Call animal control. They need to cite this owner before someone gets hurt.

Yes, but with the caveat that before you do, you talk to your neighbor first and tell him your concerns.

If it keeps being a problem, then yes. By all means.

Yes, something needs to be done.

I'd suggest contacting animal control and asking their advice. They might already have a file on these people and know how they react to being asked to pen their dogs.

Apparently, they saw the dog come at me at some point, because they are penned up on their porch now.
