  • Job applying help (out of state)

The only thing preventing me from moving out of state is a job.

I have a few questions. My cousin said I could stay with her once I get there. How hard is it to apply for a job and get one when you are out of state? Will some employers do phone interviews?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It can be VERY hard. A lot of places will not look at a resume/application with an out of state address.

If you can, use your cousins address on the application and get a Google Voice number that is local to where you are applying.

You will still need to figure out how to explain your inability to make an interview.

A lot of places will do phone interviews these days. For my last job I did one. I live in New Jersey and the company is located just outside of DC so it worked out easier. Also, I had an internship during college that lasted a few years. Got that from a phone interview also.

I think it's becoming a lot more common to do phone interviews. Most of the jobs I'm applying for these days are out of state. Still waiting to hear from one in Virginia.
