My boyfriend has just broken up with me. It really came out of the blue. I want to try to work things out, but one of the issues is that he thinks I've become too negative, and only focus on the bad. That means reading here, watching reality tv, reading 'retail hell' etc. He's mostly right; my job made me become negative and then griping about it just compounded the issue. So I'm signing off for now, trying to become a more positive person, and maybe get my boyfriend back. I don't know if I'll make it though; I never imagined life without him. But thanks all for the advice, the debates, and the input. Hoping to show up again with a more positive attitude in the future.

I wish you well, but I did notice something in your post. Specifically, you said that "one of the issues" that caused the breakup was his perception as you as a negative person.
"One of the issues." Meaning that there were others. I'm going out on a limb here, but I am going to guess that your attempts to win him back will fail. Not because of any flaw on your part, mind you, but because he has apparently made up his mind on this for a number of reasons, or "issues," if you prefer.
My advice to you, as painful as it will be, is to move on, chalk this up as a learning experience, and turn the negative into a positive, by making this an opportunity to go out and explore new things/people/places/experiences that he was not so keen on, but that interest you. Find new ways to live your life, to love, to enjoy, to have fun. Rather than viewing this as an "Oh my god, what am I going to DO?", you can view this as a "Well THAT sucked....but let's see, there are a lot of other things I can DO now!"
Whenever one door closes, another opens. I believe that, and I hope that you will find that to be the case as well. Because I fear that if you pin your hopes and dreams on this guy, they will only come crashing down.
Good luck, and I hope we hear from you again....and hear a lot of good things.

“Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assholes.” — William Gibson
I feel like, yes, you might be being negative, but, maybe there is a reason for your negativity. Your life maybe on a track you hate and you don't have a way out. A good mate would help you up and out of that rut. I went thru a period of time I was almost toxic. My soon to be hubby, took me to a school, helped me find sometHing I would love to do and helped me juggle my life to a better path.
Previous to that I had dated unsupportive jerks, one who expected me to be up and cheerful even though I was juggling 3-4 jobs and trying to save for our future while he was working one job and spending money like water. I KNOW Jester is right, going back would not help you move forward and be happy. You need to find positive supportive friends and there are those people here. Sometimes the stories here are all that keeps me from just walking out of my job. I think, wow if customersruinmylife can keep going so can I. Or Vrs, or gravekeeper. They give me a smile when they triumph over the stupid..
