  • Cleansing rituals for houses...how does that work?

Just when I thought the activity in my house can't get weirder, it one-ups itself. I have, for lack of a better term, a very large vortex in my living room. Stuff is constantly coming in and out of it, though it's usually pretty manageable. On top of that, my house kind of acts as a stopping point for various wandering entities (most of which are very polite and content to just stop and say hello before moving on). The other day, though, I had the misfortune of dealing with something very big and very powerful. It took like 15 mins to get rid of. Not sure if it came from the vortex or what.

After getting rid of it, I sought advice from a friend of mine who is far more knowledgeable about these things than I am. He knows about this vortex and has outright told me that it needs to be dealt with. Not 'should be', not 'you might want to look into that'. He actively used the words 'this needs to be dealt with and soon'. He told me that my best bet would be a cleansing. However, he's currently unable to do it himself and the only mutual friend of ours who could do it is on the other side of the state.

So how do I go about getting this done? I'm not going to attempt to do it myself. I'll leave it to a professional, but...how? @_@ Also, what will happen to the nice spirits that I mentioned? I don't want them to go away.

I am fond of murphy's oil soap for wood and nonglass surfaces, and ammonia for glass, and bleach for toilets.

Ritually, pretty much every culture has its own fancies ranging from smudging to outright exorcism. As you can tell, I am somewhat of a disbeliever in much of the paranormal practices floating around.

Have you salted around every window, door, etc?

I'm not sure of how religious you are, but most pastors will "bless" a house and that generally gets rid of bad spirits. It does not get rid of spirits altogether, as my parents' house is nearly 100 years old and despite it being blessed, there are still at least two spirits that still live with us. Although the one I asked to be quiet, and I don't hear it moving around at night anymore.

Get a tiger figurine and put it somewhere in the house......my understanding is that in Chinese folklore, they are a symbol of protection against evil spirits. (I got a few such charms from a feng shui store in a local mall, and they've helped)

If you're not allergic to it, burning sage (aka smudging) is also good for cleansing. You can buy smudge sticks at most new age stores or burning sage incense is just as good.

Depending on how well you know they they might not even require that you're the exact same faith either.

At my old church choir in Virginia the choir director "D" was Protestant but she was on good terms with the priest Father K. So when she suspected her house had spirits (manifestation of male beard shavings in the sink in the morning, for example, when no men were there) he agreed to bless the house.

I can't speak of the results though cos it never happened. D's house was rented and she found out the landlady had let herself in just to snoop. So she moved out (before the end of the month too, to avoid paying another month's rent).
