Great site... I wish I had found about this years ago. I'm sure I've forgotten some great horror stories of customers I've dealt with in my life.
I'm from South Jersey, right across the river from Philly, and have owned a computer store (a little one, not a CompUSA type of place) for 3 years now.
Just saying hello... although here's a quick story to introduce myself.
I took a year off from computers before I opened my store. (I had always worked for other people before that) I worked for a sign shop. It was fun and I got to use both my computer skills, design skills and building skills. Unfortunately the owner turned out to be a major dick, but that story is for another time.
There happened to be a pool hall upstairs in the building we occupied. We also happened to have 1 or 2 pool hall style signs in our display area in the front of the shop.
I can count at least eight or nine times when I had customers walk in and ask if we "only made pool and billiards signs".
In the grand scheme of things, it's not as big an annoyance as many other folks here have dealt with, but damn, people... look around you at the OTHER signs before asking! There's signs for construction, bathroom doors, roofers, handicapped signs, etc. Do people just automatically zone in on the billiards sign first, or are they making an assumption because we were in the same building as a pool hall? Sheesh!
Anyway - great to be here. I look forward to sharing stories with everyone and hopefully providing moral support to my fellow abused.
