  • Hey people

hi I'm new here, i'm 17 years old and I work as a cashier and bagger at a grocery store in new england.

and I am very glad to find this website it is pretty amazing

seriously the people i deal with you wont believe. today some dumb customer (or SC as you call them here it seems) indirectly called me "racist" for bagging on more than one lane at once. if anyone wants the whole story I can tell it but that's pretty much it.

I think I'm speaking for all of us when I say that we're gonna need to hear that story in full.

    Welcome to CS!

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Glad to have another grocery employee on board. Welcome to CS, joetheman.

Sometimes, bagging on more than one lane is necessary. Where I work, the baggers are supposed to move around and not stay at one register unless told otherwise.

Yeah I know and they (manager people) sometimes get angry if we don't do it a lot.

Anyway what happened was I was bagging on register A and the lady (and yes she was black which is only relevant because that's where the racist thing comes in) had like 3 or 4 items and the cashier was easily bagging them. So I move over to another register that has like 50 items piling up on the other side.

And I can hear her basically accusing me of bagging somewhere else just because she was black. So I figured I either had to go further away to show her that I wasn't gonna go back or just go back before she left. I did the latter, and she seemed to believe what the cashier told her (that I was just moving because we are always short on baggers and its busy etc), and I just said have a nice day she said you too, and she left.

Seriously why would you accuse people of that?

I have a lot of good stories if anyone wants to hear them.

Also I will list my two biggest complaints about customers.

        1. If my light is off, I am closed. If the sign says closed, I'm closed. If I'm running a register and they shut me down but don't block me off so I can go on break, or leave, I probably have like two customers left. In this period of time I will have to tell at least four or five or seven people that I'm closed. Seriously one time they DID block it off by putting one of those candy/gum things kinda halfway blocking it and yet someone MOVED IT and came in anyway and then she's like "oh sorry not paying attention".

        2. Stop asking me questions when I'm not on the register. I work in the front end, I don't know crap about where stuff goes. It actually is nice to be able to help tell people where something is but one time I was just walking to the back of the store through that employees only door and up to the break room and I got at least four questions around the meat area.

Seriously, "can you tell me where ___ is", isn't too bad, "can you see if there's any more of these in the back because we're out", NO WE DONT HAVE ANY MORE LEAVE US ALONE YOU SHOULDVE COME EARLIER.
