I'm Oberon and finally bit the bullet and made an account. I've been lurking for a significant amount of time. Gravekeeper regularly makes my sides hurt...

I'm an RVT student, working as a tech at an corporate owned animal hospital in southern California.

I have more than my fair share of stories to tell...

Did you know that there are people who are insulted when we won't treat their sick dog (usually sickness caused by the owner...) for free? It's thrilling, really...

      well...

You see, there is a fine line between "oh shit, my dog just ate two socks, a pair of underware and half a toy" (true story) and "Well, my dog's been throwing up for the last 2 weeks and about 6 days ago, she started to have bloody diarrhea... do you think something is wrong? Also I have no money..." (also true)

For the first client, we might be more inclined to cut them a break. For the second client, We have to take the doctor in back and calm them down so they don't chew the client a new one...

As for biting the bullet, I tend to get really addicted to message boards... and I have no free time anyway (who needs sleep?) So I was attempting to put it off and just lurk, but I have too many dumb client stories that need to be not in my head.

as (one of) the resident graveyard worker(s) I can say with quite some confidence, sleep is overrated, you'll get used to not having it

          Welcome!

I'm also an E/CC tech at a 24-hour hospital--in fact, I'm still in my scrubs from tonight's shift. I've been doing this for 8 years now (5 full time, 3 part time), so I bet I can match any story you can come up with --especially if you count the stories I've heard second-hand from coworkers.

Nothing from tonight, though. The weather was terrible, so we only saw three dogs (they all came in within half an hour, naturally) and everyone was pleasant. There's always next time...

            Hi there,

I've been doing this for about a year, though I have vet experience with my horses who like to hurt themselves... I'm an RVT student, so I guess I'm an "Unregistered veterinary assistant" still I graduate and pass my state boards...

and I too am still in my scrubs. Its cause they're comfy...
