Greetings everyone,
Another long-time lurker coming out of the shadows (started viewing after the mention in Newsweek way back when and a few servers ago, just rediscovered a few months ago). I don't have too much to post now but foresee some good stories coming up in the next year.
I'm currently a grad student and a teaching assistant at a reasonably prestigious university (not that one...or that one...but if you're from the States you've probably heard of it). For the most part, teaching there is an amazing job because it draws so many great kids and it feels much, much more like I'm dealing with young scholars than customers. But they are technically customers still, and if they're doing it wrong... they can and do still earn their way into the ranks of the SC.
I have also done a number of years in a coffee shop (great customers, not so great management) and a short while cashiering in high school/college at a place, well, to follow the local practice let's just say the kind of place that means I have a few orange aprons in my closet. My best sucky customer stories come from my time as a college admissions counselor, but sad to say, unless I can figure out how to get around the massive privacy problems it would involve, I may not get to post too many of those...that was another job that was really was a lot of fun and meaningful except for the occasional crazy, but they always knew how to be crazy with style.
Always been impressed with the community here and excited to finally stick my toes in the water.
