I'm in the middle of my first actual week at what I'll call A Major American Cable Company (after four weeks of training).
I can safely say that I've never been more unhappy with a job in my life. I started off believing the hype from the recruiter that I'd use my education and mad internet tech skills. Instead, I'm finding myself spending 8 hours a day teaching very old people who bought HD TV' big enough to qualify for membership in the UN how to... change a channel.
I honestly can't believe that the greatest generation is calling me to ask permission to press a button on their remote control. As in:
Me: Okay, let's try channel 12.
Caller: How do I do that?
Me: Um, on your remote control, press 1, then 2.
Caller: So you want me to press the 1 key, then press the 2 key?
Me: Um, yes.
Caller: Okay. I'm pressing 1 and now I'm pressing 2. Is that what I should be doing?
I die a little with each call.
