  • Let's do the store cheer! Err...let's not.

Hey, everyone. I finished college in mid December and, even before graduating, was trying to find some sort of full-time employment (versus the part-time-only job that I had when I was in school) that didn't involve the possibility of imprisonment. Or a stripper pole, because there are certain things that nobody should have to see.

The discount-department store in my lil' community (The Sticks, Texas, basically) hired me to work nights. A big group of us were hired to help with the upcoming remodel but, until that starts, we're all floaters. We've been doing everything from cleaning to moving merchandise to guarding roll-up doors that the construction workers are using (i.e. make sure that the drug addicts who've infested this lil' community don't dart in, snatch a TV, and run - although I don't quite know what I'm supposed to do if one of them tries it, seeing as my manager told me that I couldn't borrow a shotgun from sporting goods for sentry duty...pfft).

Mostly, I like the job because I get to be up at night - which I prefer anyway - and because I'm getting full-time hours. I also like most of the people there because they're friendly enough and most are happy to take me aside and teach me something new. The goal is to be one of the x (unknown number at this point) new hires offered permanent employment after the remodel, which shouldn't be hard because I'm one of the new people who actually works.

    So...hi.
