  • "A child! My kingdom for a child!!! "

*I'm the equivalent of an ASM at a local theme park*

*Names have been changed to protect the child...*

Mother is outside my store screaming. Her daughter is lost and she wants Security "NOW!!!"

One of the guys goes to call security while I try to get some basic information about the child. All I get out of the distraught mother is "Jake! Jake! I want security out here!"

Ok we're calling security. Can I get some information? More screaming. Finally I get a name and a description-- Jane, age, clothes.

This particular shop is at a crossroads, with two famous female characters nearby. Does she like either--"I dunno! JANE!!!! "

Okay. At that point I walk to the nearest attraction and let their coordinator know about the missing child. I also let the girl in charge of the meet-and-greet of the lost little girl and head back to the shop.

Blessed silence! Did Security show up? Other visitors are hoping she found her child. I walk into the shop and my three employees are looking at me. "Did she find her child?"

    "Yup."

    "Oh, good!"

"Yeah... She was asleep in her stroller. Dad had her."

And this idiot never thought to wonder, "WHERE'S DAD?" because gee, maybe the kid is with HIM ...

...or even, "Where's the stroller that my kid was in?"

To be fair, a new mother can get paranoid about her baby. She wasn't thinking straight.

Still, she should've looked for her husband.

OK, I get the panic, but standing there screaming won't help anything. When people ask you questions about the child, it's to help you find the kid faster. And she didn't even notice daddy wasn't there...which could have been a clue to where the kid was? Weird.

            Quick update

One of the employees told me that dad showed up with the little girl sleeping inside the stroller... Explains how they knew where she was...

I'd rather be embarrassed looking for my child, than reversed, thinking she is with the father and the father thinking she was with the mother and neither of them looking for her.

Sundasa, that happened once too. Child sleeping in stroller outside a store, park closes, cops are called.... Parents rush up: large group, 2 vans, and each thought the other had the child.

But you're right: better to look and the child be safe, than assuming the child is safe and not looking. :-)
