While reading about SCs at the bank, I remembered a brain burp from years ago.
I had moved from Florida to Maryland, and received a refund on my Florida license tag. It was $5 and change. I stopped by my bank to cash it.
The teller looked at the check, opened her drawer, took out a stack of twenties and started counting them. I thought it was kind of odd to do that in the middle of a transaction, but I didn't say anything. Finally she took out a few lesser bills and some change, and handed it all to me. I looked at the over $400 and asked her how much that check was for. She looked at the check again, and took the money back real quick.
She had read the 5 digit check serial number as the amount.
