Moved here, belongs here, completely forgot about this forum section. Well, not forget, so much as "ignore" and don't think about it often. Similar. Thanks Kittykat.
Some notes: I'm fairly certain this student is a recent immigrant (Recent-ish, likely within the last year). I almost never post things dealing with ESL students, Disabilities students, or students who aren't native to the US, because it's not really fair.
But this happened, and I needed to post it. Just think of this as the customer service version of cute puppy pictures, brightened my day right the hell up. XD
Helping her with some financial aid.
Student: I need help.
Me: (Walks over again) With what?
Student: (Mouses over a question) My son receives Social Security because of my husband, who got it as..
(I listen, but read the question, and barely manage to stop myself from laughing)
Me: (Interrupts) Er, ma'am, here, let me rephrase that question for you. It wants to know if you are the recipient of a Congressional Medal of Honor, are you?
Student: No.
Me: Okay, are you the child of someone who received the Congressional Medal of Honor?
Student: No.
Me: Alright then, doesn't look like it pertains to you.
Student: But my child gets Social Security.
Me: They aren't them same thing.
Student: They aren't the same thing?
Me: No, not the same thing.
Student: So, I click no?
Me: You click no.
I managed to turn away before a smile broke out on my face.
Helped her and sent her on the way, and everything worked out in the end.
This was much better than what I usually deal with, and it really did brighten my day. Glad I could help her.
