So, just had a customer call in to ,ensure because their Internet modem isn't working.
Okay, I get the account information pulled up and see the modem is offline, nothing out of the ordinary so far.
So, when we get to trying to unplug the modem, I get this great description of how things are connected :
Coaxoxo cable from the wall outlet goes into the cable box, from there another coax cable goes from the box to a cable sp,itter, and from there, 1 end goes to the TV, the other finally makes it to the modem.
Yeah, was fun helping this guy reconnect everything properly

Never used a cable modem, but my understanding is that the main feed goes to a splitter. One output goes to the modem, the other goes to the cable box, which then feeds the TV.

The cable box output has ONLY the cable signal on a single channel, and selects the channel from the input to feed to that single-channel output. There is NO "backward" flow of information.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

Yeah, it is supposed to go wall outlet to splitter, and from the splitter to the cable box and to the modem

The scary part is that I would think the installer did that?

          Rule #1:

          Label the cables.
