I actually nearly electrocuted myself by being an idiot once. I went to plug a hotplate into a wall outlet, not thinking that the wires were exposed. Touched the wires and literally knocked myself out of my chair. My entire arm was numb for an hour.

Open TV (powered on for adjustment) + flyback transformer + metal screwdriver = one numb arm and one screwdriver accidentally flung across the room and stuck in the other wall.
I'm truly surprised that I survived my youth.

Last winter we had a bad roof leak. Water going all over a few of the register check stands. We need to mop/vacuum it up. While I keep customers at bay while the MOD gos to shut off the power when a CW decides to get closer to investigate.
Just because the monitor shorted out doesn't mean the power to it and the belt motor and light is off. They got a little shock, little begin thrown back to the ground.

The OP reminds me of a conversation I overheard in home depot once...
This elderly guy with a thick eastern european accent was arguing with one of the clerks. The clerk clearly knew his stuff, but the elderly guy was apparently convinced the clerk was trying to pull a fast one on him, and was having none of it.
What did the old guy want to do, you ask? Well, you see, his RV had a 230v heavy duty plug to connect an outside power supply to the RV; He wanted an adapter so he could plug it into his house, which was 115v. He was absolutely convinced that electricity was electricity, and all he needed was an adapter to make the plugs fit.
It won't work, period. But it's not too bad, the worst that will happen is he'll trip his circuit breaker and he'll be back in a few hours claiming the clerk sold him defective merchandise. I edged into the conversation to back up the clerk and try to explain why it wouldn't work (hey, I work with this sort of thing). I offered to build him an adapter so his plug would fit into the dryer power supply (which would work) but he wasn't having any of it.
That's when the old guy dropped the scary bomb. Seems he actually had a generator to hook the cable up to...that the plug fit into just fine. But he also wanted an adapter so he could plug his TV into that port...
He eventually wandered off, muttering angrily under his breath...I can only hope he eventually believed one of the clerks (or someone) or that latter project of his could have gotten messy...
