Due to several parking spots needing to be reserved in the Visitor Parking garage at the university where I work, there was very limited first come first serve parking for anyone not on the event list. There are 55 "regular" parking spots & 4 handicapped parking spots. Most people who are handicapped either 1) ask me if there is any handicapped spots when they drive up to the booth window 2) have the handicapped sign hanging from their rear view window or 3) tell me they are handicaapped when they drive up.
Once the non-reserved spots were full, the open sign in front of the garage turned to full. A customer drove up to window to park, & when it was apparent he was not on the event list, I told him the garage was reserved & that I could not allow anyone to enter the garage. I explained to him where other parking was. He exited the entrance to the booth & went across the street to park. Then he returned & asked me if he could park in the faculty/staff garage becuase his father is a professor at the university. I told him that since the Parking office is over the garage (Visitor Parking/Community Relations is over Visitor Parking, & this dept. is located on a different floor), he would have to ask them if he could park there. I told him to press the call box at the faculty/staff entrance & ask to be connected to the Parking office. So he does that. Then he returns & asks me if there are any handicapped spots available. Yes, there were some available, but there was no handicapped sign hanging from his rear view window & he did not tell me this the first time he drove up to the booth. Now, why did he not do this when he first arrived? It would have saved a lot of trouble.
