The Joys of Christmas Parties

The casino I used to work at always hosted a local company's Christmas party. Despite there being problems with fights every year, the owners of the company always provided an open bar.

This one year, one of the owners got sucker punched by an employee's date and all hell broke loose. it was a huge drunken brawl that spilled out onto the Casino floor. The Sheriff's Dept forced us to stop serving alcohol to EVERYONE in the casino until the matter had been completely taken care of, but that's neither here nor there.

The brain burp in this story comes from 2 co-workers, both security guards, that chased one of the fighters out the of casino and across the 4 lane highway. Security Guard R thought that he'd be clever and try to pepper spray the guy while running, since he couldn't tackle him. His timing was off and the only thing he did was end up pepper spraying security guard S that inadvertently ran through the mist. He got it in his eyes, nose, mouth, and lungs. He was in a world of hurt that night. To make matters worse, there he was blinded, choking, and coughing in the middle of the 4 lane highway.

Every party since then has still had an open bar but instead of our security guards keeping watch, it's been the county's finest.

I've never understood why people try and use incapticant spray on a target moving away from them. All you're going to acheive is getting their hair nicely damp.

Might be all they have and they feel like they have to do SOMETHING, even if they know it's not going to work. Without delving too much into Fratching territory, there are police departments/security companies that were previously armed and are now switching to weapons less likely to kill someone.

But to accidentally spray pepper spray in a coworker's face is one heckuva brain burp.

the guard should have been trained well enough to get out of the road at least, but spraying a coworker on accident? WTF?
