  • It was me...

    Friday. Work done, wanted to go home. I had finished my grocery shopping and swiped my debit card. I wanted $20, so typed in 20 on the keyboard. The clerk's face said it all as he handed me my 20 cents.
    I know I'm supposed to type in 2000, but I wanted $20, so I typed in 20. I just didn't think about someone actually wanting something other than a full dollar amount, although I'm sure many of you can relate tales of someone intentionally requesting 47 cents or some such.
    How embarrassing.

    Oh, I laughed, too; what else could I do?

      There's a lady who comes into my store all the time and always wants at least $10 back, but wants to make her debit balance even.

      Total = $16.54
      She asks for = $13.46 cash back
      New total = $30.00

      It's silly. If you can't do math if your balance isn't even, just leave. I'm done looking at you.
      I work at Walgreens.

      (I'm just tired of mentioning it every time I want to relate to a story. )

        But doesn't doing the math to get to the rounded figure imply that they can do the math in the first place?

          I've done it! I wanted $5 back and typed in 5 cents.

          The cashier let me run my Debit card again even though the purchase was finished so I could get my 5 bucks.

          Also, I had a nickel!

            Ive never even thought of getting change back. Usually they promoter pads have increments by the buttons and you press the $20, or the $40 or something.

            I wouldve died laughing. LOL....and tried to play it off. "But I REALLY need .20 cents!!!!"

                    In the grocery store that I work at, if someone wants cash back, and presses other, it they want ten they press 10. I didn't realize that other places had you put the cents in as well. Although if you want an amount back that has change in it, the cashier can put it in for you.

                      Ahhhhh, now that I have returned to Texas I see that the cash back options are in full dollar amounts here... Must just be an Idaho thing. Man, I'm glad to be home again.
