I live in Houston. There are 2 noteworthy airports here (there are private ones, and a military one). One is George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the other is named Hobby. I get this phone call at work:

idiot: Hi, I want to know if JFK airport is in downtown.
Me: um, it's in New York. I have to see if it's on Manhatten Island.
idiot: JFK airport isn't in Houston?
me: no.
idiot: But I was listening to the police scanner and they mention JFK airport.
me: There is a blvd name JFK that goes to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. They are probably mentioning that Blvd.
idiot: Oh, I see. Ok thanks.

(psst) JFK is in Queens. About an hour from Manhattan. There aren't any airports in Manhattan, because there's no space (3 miles x 13 miles). JFK and Laguardia are in Queens (the latter is northern, the former is southern) Islip is middle-of-nowhere Long Island, and Newark is Jersey, but actually the closest to Midtown Manhattan. Go figure.

yeah, figured JFK wasn't in Manhatten, I was just floored that he thought JFK was in Downtown Houston or Downtown NYC. I was also hoping for "New York is on an island?" which would lead to me explaining to NYC for the next 10 min. Wait, I don't want to explain NYC.
I've been at the Newark airport 3 or 4 times. With all the NY souvinirs(sp).

I'm from a (former) high-society NY family, and *I* don't want to explain NY.

The idea that anyone could think JFK is in Houston baffles me.

Wait...no, it doesn't. Not after a few questions I've had thrown at me. *sigh* Some people, eh?

BTW - next time someone is confused about NYC being an island, just tell them it's actually on three islands and the mainland. Confuse them more

Whoops wrong president. I kinda like Hobby, but only cause it's closer to my neck of the woods! But then again I rarely take a plane so meh.

Still JFK? In Houston? Maybe they don't get out much?
