  • Marble Mashed Potatoes

Okay, people. Three guesses what this is?

Right. It's white potatoes and sweet potatoes mashed together to produce pretty (and yummy) swirls of color.

That was on the lunch menu in our cafeteria today. The pan was out for all to see when a young lady on the Security staff asked.

"Marble Mashed Potatoes? What's that?" The tone was similar was that appropriate for some unfamiliar dish of totally dubious appearance and smell.

    The counterman explained.

    She still wasn't sure.

"But why Marble. That doesn't look anything like marbles."

Dear child. Have you never heard of marble cake or marble bread?

    sounds delicious. ^_^
Also, silly woman. Besides, who cares what it's called in such a case, if it looks yummy, the ingredients have been told to you, and it sounds yummy, eat it. If not, don't eat it. End of transaction..

You know, French sticks don't look very French either. Maybe you should draw a small moustache on them, hang a clove of garlic around them and slap a beret on the top. Might save a bit of confusion there.

French sticks? What are those? I'm assuming similar to bread sticks, but what's different?

I think they can do, but the ones I tend to get are plain.

Thank you for the pictures Chanlin, it makes easier than my explanation

ETA - according to my friend in Lyon, yes you can.

I quite often make mine with fresh roasted garlic, but you have to be careful since raw garlic or even too much garlic in a bread recipe can make a loaf short and heavy.

And yes - they are that good!!!
No... Just No! And I mean it this time!

That was her problem, Kiwi. She was thinking marble the stone or the toy. Everybody knows those are hard. Since mashed potatoes are soft they couldn't possibly have anything to do with marble.

                          Sheldonrs,

I imagine toad-in-the-hole would also cause a problem.

we had a question about skink on a menu in Scotland. Here in the US of A, a skink is a lizard. Over there, it's a rather tasty fish.

This one might get taken down but the way this thread is going I have to say it.

It's an old joke about a suburban Communist Swinger group that met for cocktails once a week. They'd engage in political discussion, enjoy themselves and clean up before they went home. They were said to engage in:

                            Cheese and pickle

                            Hammer and Sickle

                            Slap and Tickle

                            Bubble and Squeak.
