Not really the answer I was looking for...

So I started To Kill a Mockingbird with my students today and it's been....fun. I don't know what it is with this group but I feel like I have to drag answers out of them.
I was trying to get them to characterize Boo Radley when I gave them the following hint:
"Look at the line from the beginning of the book '...Dill first gave us the idea of making Boo Radley come out.' What does that say about Boo?"
For a couple minutes my question was met with blank stares and fish faces (the hesitant opening and closing of mouths) when one of my darlings blurted out the answer he thought I wanted:
"Oh, he's gay!"


...I nearly peed myself I was laughing so hard.

Wow...it's been forever since I've ready that book. I've always thought that there was something missing from it. But yea...can defintly tell the wave of the times with the answers some people give.
