  • It's a hat

I just got trained on doing background checks, so I'm feeling like a private eye! I mentioned this to the head programmer, N.

Me: "I need to start bringing my fedora to work. "
    N: *surprised* "You run Fedora?"
Me: "I HAVE a fedora. You know, the hat, like detectives wear?"
N: "OOOH! I thought you meant the Linux program."

    I work with geeks.

LOL I don't always understand geeks, but I have a soft spot for them.

One of our regular customers has a hat collection, the way cute little old men do. One day he came in wearing a fedora.

AssMan happened to be strolling by as I was checking him out, and informed me that (customer) was wearing a fedora. I told them both that it looks good and (customer) wears it well. AssMan was absolutely astounded that I knew what a fedora was. I told him I read a lot.
          I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

Boldface emphasis mine. I'm surprised that nobody has turned this into a joke about UNIX yet.

This thread reminds me I really need to buy a hat, mostly to go with the cool vintage clothes I keep finding in thrift stores.

                      You need a hat.

Back in the days of a really cool boss, there was an argument about me wearing a hat at times in the office back when I was a young padwan. It ended up with him agreeing that I could wear a hat in the office if it was "a Fedora with a feather"

I was, and still am, a smartass.

One Zoot Suit and a Fedora with a feather in the band later, I had my boss and my co-workers rolling on ground.

He paid for my Friday Night drinks as he didn't think I would get the had or go as far as I did.

See, I don't get any of that. But if a cute nerdy boy wanted to try to explain it, I'd nod adoringly.
