  • Our trolleys are free...

Had a gentleman today try and pull one of the trolleys that was secured to an unopened register, asking me "How much are these?" when his attempts were thwarted.

Me: let me get the manager for you...

In the end, he got one (we don't charge for trolleys). But that made me laugh...just because they're secured to the registers, does not mean that they cost something!

We've had a LOT of people thwarted by their attempts to steal trolleys from the registers because they're attached with a cord. It's hilarious to watch.

...Aldy's (famous popular cheap grocery store) has these really cool carts...they're hooked together by chains which plug in to one another (cart in back hooks to cart in front, by way of small chain). To get them loose you have to put a quarter in the tray and push the tray in...to get your quarter back you have to hook the cart back into another cart...system prevents a lot of stray/stolen carts...

I'm famliar with Aldi's. (Just because I'm Australian doesn't mean we're THAT far backwards )

But the trolley cords are attached to the register, not to another trolley. The trolleys are free, but we put some in front of the unmanned registers instead of a gate or something similar to keep out thieves.

I survived Down Under on Aldi's when I was there and didn't want to go out to a diner. Your Aldi's look better then ours.

Every time I read this topic, I think there ought to be a song about "Our Trolleys Are Free" sung to the tune of "Sie Gedanken Sind Frei" (The Thoughts Are Free).
