But they have SCOTCH! Like, ALL the Scotch. Scotch you have to special order from Scotland to get it to America, but then it'd have to go through customs, and you don't want it delivered to your house, anyway, since your family is convinced alcohol is the devil's beverage, but you can't get it delivered at work either and your sister's cool with having it delivered to her place, but they aren't always there during the day and would probably drink it before you even got a taste of that delicious ambrosia from the Highlands.Quoth lilstu50 View PostIt's too wet
I can handle a little humidity to avoid that."For the love of all that is holy and 4 things that aren’t but feel pretty good anyway" ~ Gravekeeper

From 'Married with Children':
DMV clerk "What language do you speak?"
Al: I'm an American, I'm in America, I speak the same language as everyone else.
DMV clerk " Ah, Espanol. Buena.

Because if they don't, they'll get flooded with complaints about alleged bad spelling and asking what a philosopher is.Quoth Ironclad Alibi View PostThe thing I hated about the Harry Potter books published by Scholastic in the US was that Scholastic felt they had to translate them from English to American.

I will be in a little over a month!Quoth jjllbb View PostSIGH. I'm just jealous. I wish I were in Scotland.
No you don't. I've got three places near me (two in walking distance, the other a short drive) that I can buy it at. And the good single malts, too.Quoth HorrorFrogPrincess View PostBut they have SCOTCH! Like, ALL the Scotch. Scotch you have to special order from Scotland to get it to America,

Funnily enough, I had only ever heard of the Philosopher's Stone prior to Harry Potter. I was confused when I read later that they changed it to appeal to an American audience.I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

Do they have Springbank? Cause I can't find that stuff anywhere. *sulk*Quoth Pagan View PostNo you don't. I've got three places near me (two in walking distance, the other a short drive) that I can buy it at. And the good single malts, too.
Not that my local discount liquor store doesn't have a nice selection of single malts. Just... not nice enough.

You do understand that American English is a dialect of English and not a wholly separate language. People from the UK and the US can understand each other with minimal difficulty.Quoth Ironclad Alibi View PostThe thing I hated about the Harry Potter books published by Scholastic in the US was that Scholastic felt they had to translate them from English to American. What an insult. A company known for educational books is denying American children, and others, the opportunity to learn about the differences between the English and American languages? AAAAaaaaargh!!!! When I found out about the differences, I bought my copies (HP 3-7) from Amazon UK."Sigh, I'm going to Hell.....but I'm going with a smile on my face." -- Gravekeeper

Quoth Pagan View PostThose aren't native to America.Quoth Mike Taylor View PostLike English, they didn't originate in the Americas. They come from Europe.
First. STUNNED that either of you felt it necessary to point that out.
Second, I was really going for the geography thing - languages of the Americas. 'Native to' and 'originate in' hadn't been specified at the point in the thread where I responded. I was just adding to the choices that lilstu50's customer might have to decide from.
