  • Not sucky just so DUMB

Alright, background, hospital worker, digital imaging tech (xrays).

had a women for a shoulder xray. im positioning her for the xray. and i need her to move to the left so i ask her in a clear voice (i have a raspy/whispery voice due to a surgery fuck up when i was like 2 days old so at work i purposely speak VERY loudly and clearly, for me anyways lol, to make sure patients hear/understand me).

so i ask her to take a step to the left.... she turns away from me, so i turn her back the way she was and say 'no dont turn take a step to the left'... she turns AGAIN. so AGAIN i move her and say 'take a step to the left, away from me' (i was standing on her right).

she turns to look at me laughs and says (w/a purely serious tone of voice) 'I dont know what that is.'

wow.. i was literally dumbstuck for about 5 seconds before i had to SHOW her, what a 'step to your left' looked like...

and no she wasn't a young child, or a very elderly person she was... i dunno mid 30's maybe. and not foreign so it wasn't a language barrier issue.

but wow... just wow. even thinking about it im still shocked (and this happened 2 days ago).

Haha, in my head I heard:

"It's just a jump to the left ... then a step to the riiiiiight"

I have moments like that, though I usually just look at my hands to see which is which. I can admit it, I am directionally challenged and can't tell my right from my left without some thought. That woman was out of it, though - was she on narcotics for pain or something? That's weird.

Crack. It has to be crack

Seriously, I've been on several pain medications (including one time that I was on *multiple* pain medications...after hernia surgery), and I don't ever recall not knowing my right and left

Well.....I'm sure she wasn't any worse than the time after a good dose of morphine I proceeded to sing circus music to the xray tech

Haha, I often have to say, "Other left!"

In my business, people always mix left and right depending on which way they're facing. A car only has one left and one right side, always from the driver's perspective.

My auto shop teacher cleared that right up one day in class. He told a student, "If I tell you to go replace a right front turn signal, what do you do?"

I was once a big Rocky Horror fan too.

            LOL

When I was put on morphine my doc found me swaying in the hallway (I was still in the ER) I shushed him, told him I was high and that I felt like I was here

Ok, I think you should give her the benefit of the doubt. I have a type of visual/audio dyslexia that occasionally messes with perception. I hear one word, and it causes a connection in the brain that is just wrong. I did have one incident that was somewhat terrifying, I was arriving at a stop light, and it turned red ... well it was a bad day in tamezin land that day.

No they hadn't given her anything. (usually they (nurses etc.)) DONT give any meds to someone before their xrays unless it's really necessary because I mean if they are given say.. morphine it can impair their balance (as well as their mood/cooperation etc.) so making me get lower quality images for the drs

Lol that would have made me laugh.

I had a young guy the other night (late teens) who, drunkly and bitterly informed me that 'If I hadn't crashed my bike going down that hill I could have gotten laid!'

took all I had not to laugh :P. He was the good kind of drunk patient, chatty, but friendly and cooperative.
